Growing up in the area, I always wanted to stay at the lodge. Was all I’d hoped. The best version of quaint luxury. Property isn’t modern and she shows her age. But it really is exceptionally charming.

There are clearly some areas that money could fix. But the charm of the building, staff, and location outplay this.

    Property response:

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely experience. We’re delighted to hear that the lodge met your expectations and that you found it to be a charming and special place. Our team takes pride in maintaining its character and welcoming atmosphere, and we truly appreciate your understanding regarding some of the areas that could use updates. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another memorable stay!

We chose this lodge both for the access to a wonderful, cool spring right outside the back door and for the classic historic features. I loved the marble floors and large bathroom sink, the historic touches in the room and the lobby, and the added feature of delicious breakfasts and dinners and ice cream parlor. I also loved the old elevator with the wooden sides. We also took the boat ride down the river, which was very informative. This is a lovely place.

We had one of the two rooms with king beds, but found that it had a connecting door to the next room. We could hear phone notifications coming from that room, it was that uninsulated. It's good that there are no televisions, or we wouldn't be able to sleep! On the plus side, it was lovely to hear the tree frogs at night. In any case, privacy was not assured.

    Property response:

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the historic charm of the lodge, from the marble floors and large bathroom sink to the vintage elevator. It's wonderful that you appreciated the delicious breakfasts, dinners, and ice cream parlor, as well as the boat ride down the river. We also appreciate your honesty regarding the room with the connecting door. We apologize for the noise disturbances and the lack of insulation, and we'll certainly review this to improve our guest experience. We're glad you enjoyed the natural sounds of the tree frogs at night—it's part of the charm of staying with us! Thank you again for your valuable insights. We hope to host you again soon for another memorable stay. ---

The lodge, staff and restaurant was amazing. The water and tour was a pleasant experience.

My pregnant wife and my self were very disappointed how no smoking areas was not enforced and had to be around people smoking cigarettes and weed in not smoking areas.

    Property response:

Thank you for your kind words about the lodge, staff, and restaurant — we're glad you enjoyed your experience and the water tour. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the smoking issues. We understand how important a smoke-free environment is for our guests’ comfort and safety, especially for those who are pregnant. We will address this matter with our team to ensure stricter enforcement of our non-smoking policies moving forward. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide an even better experience.

The ambience The history The setting The river cruise, especially the well informed, mature, seasoned guide from St.Marks on the river who grew up in the area. The river cruise was very reasonably priced at $8 per ticket in today’s overly inflated tourism prices. The staff at the restaurant were extremely friendly, helpful and professional going above and beyond in their efforts to serve.

The front desk seemed short staffed. Complimentary coffee was supposed to be served from 7:00 am until 9:00 am but ran out by 8:30. Never refilled. When asked about it at the front desk they replied it was past 9:00 am and coffee could be purchased in the gift shop for a fee. When gift shop attendant overheard the conversation she attempted to undo the short sightedness by offering free coffee refill. Upgrades to rooms such as TV, small refrigerator in the walk in closets, and microwave would greatly enhance and promote longer booking stays at the facility. Especially being located on the river in the middle of Forrest with no outside access except what’s at the hotel.

    Property response:

Thank you for your detailed feedback; we're delighted you appreciated the ambience, rich history, and scenic setting, along with the river cruise led by the knowledgeable guide from St. Marks, and we're glad you found the price reasonable. We will share your positive comments about our restaurant staff with the team. We apologize for the inconvenience regarding the coffee service and will address staffing and supply issues to improve this experience. Your suggestions for room upgrades, such as adding a TV, refrigerator, and microwave, are valuable and will be considered to enhance guest stays, especially given our secluded river location. Your insights help us improve and provide a more enjoyable experience for all guests.

Dinner at the lodge restaurant was very good. Prompt service. Servers were very nice and helpful. Dinner was excellent food. Appreciate the kids menu also. Loved the soda fountain and ice cream bar. Delicious treats to enjoy on a summer day. Boat ride fun and affordable.

Breakfast had a variety of food, but, not real flavorful. Pancakes were fluffy but plain. Swimming area crowded on weekends.

Wonderful historic lodge with great staff and excellent food. Access to the springs is just 50 yards away. Loved the boat tour. Colin Johnson, our singing Park Ranger on the tour was very knowledgable and entertaining. First time here but will be back for sure.

Late night ranger presentation by a fire near the springs would be great. Would be nice if they had a bar.
