This hotel is beautiful and the breakfast and snacks especially the cookies were wonderful. I couldn't have loved it more. The location is fantastic. So comfortable and stylish plus staff are very helpful!

The Merchant is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are exceptionally appointed, and the location couldn't have been more perfect. Lovely having snacks available on each level. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Salem who is looking for an elevated historic hotel experience.

Different representation of what breakfast was when booked…. Difficulty in finding parking for the hotel….no signs to lead you there Finding how to enter the hotel itself with the front walkway roped off…no sign to lead you or tell you which way to go for guests An unusable bar in the lounge, just for decoration

Stunning architecture and interior design details. A very warm and cozy retreat, wonderful for couples and those that prefer a private and quiet stay that’s location is ideal for exploring Salem’s downtown. The fireplace and robes in each room are perfect for luxuriating on colder days.

Excellent across the board. Large room and nice bathroom. Warm despite outside cold. Staff was exceptional. Great cookies and scones. Great hot chocolate.

Nothing! We enjoyed our stay fully in every way!

Location! History! and Amazing Staff. We were so thrilled to stay at the Merchant for the proximity to everything. And how cool to stay in one of the well known historical buildings in all of Salem!! I cannot speak more highly of the staff who were so attentive and helpful pre-arrival and then through our stay. They are not on site in the evenings (after 5pm) and there are not elevators if that's something you require.

I don't normally care too much about where I stay beyond cleanliness and a comfortable bed, but The Merchant was enchanting...friendly and helpful staff and delicious breakfast, as well as an extremely well appointed building. We will be back!

Lighting in the bathroom wasn't very bright. A small table in the bathroom or ledge for toiletries etc would be great!

Everything! Size of room, amenities, drinks and snacks available and extra towels and tp were available for us to grab, parking on site, staff was helpful and friendly, water bottles available, everything we needed! Lather products were awesome! Also there were plenty of plugs for electronics! Outdoor porch and balcony were great!

There’s no elevator

I loved how central The Merchant is located from everything in Salem. I absolutely loved the aesthetic of the hotel and the breakfast scones! This place was cozy and fun.

For some reason the coffee machine wasn't hot every time I tried to make coffee. Although the staff debunked me when I told them. Coffee just didn't work for me but they had two machines. The stairs were loud when people went up and down at night. No other issues.

The building was unique with lots of character. The staff were all very pleasant, helpful and kind. Muffins, scones and yogurts were freshly made for breakfast. Snacks were available too! The location was perfect. The building was in great condition. It was clean and cozy. It had a fireplace in the king deluxe room with separate in room controls for the air conditioning and heat. I definitely would recommend this place to stay.

I could suggest adding in a few healthier choices for the included breakfast. Another suggestion would be to add a few games or puzzles in the lounge for families to enjoy!

I loved it all. This hotel has such great charm and character. The property is in the center of town so we were able to walk to everything. I loved smelling the fresh aroma of sconces being baked in the morning.

Breakfast. It was nice to be able to get snacks and coffee as needed, but I was disappointed with the Nespresso coffee and the self-help breakfast options. Brewed coffee and fresh pastry from a local bakery seems fitting for the quality and character of the hotel.

The décor of the hotel is fantastic - a modern and clean update that honors the original style of the building. The location in Salem is very, very convenient to shops, restaurants and the water.

Maybe not washcloths over the toilet? Missed a fridge in the room, although there was one downstairs.
