The issues you described regarding door and gate access are concerning, and we will be addressing them with our condo association management team to ensure all ADA features are in proper working order. Accessibility is important to us, and your comments will help us improve. We also understand your frustration regarding the beach access situation in Destin. While local regulations and private ownership limit direct control, we regret that this is entirely out of our control. Regrettably, this is a common practice in some US States, where other states require oceanfront owners to provide full access. Well, a negative review is inevitable. No matter how hard you try, it is a fact of life and it is going to happen. I should start by saying that our guests never once mentioned any of their physical conditions mentioned in this review. If they had, I would have suggested a scooter rental to improve the experience. The fact is that we did also offer a full refund of unused room nights early on so that our guest could check into a full-service establishment. A privately owned condominium rental is not a full-service establishment. Accessibility: While it is 300-350 yards from garage to the unit’s door, not 9/10’s of a mile, a person with physical limitations should consider a scooter instead of walking and a wagon for their belongings, especially in the summer heat and humidity. The condominium is accessible throughout by wheelchair. The patio and shower, however, do have raised thresholds that require stepping over. Unfortunately, she did have to deal with security due to checking in after hours, and they do have a policy of holding a license to ensure the luggage cart is returned. After a talk with security, it was clear that they were simply doing their job, but again, not full-service. The problem the guest ran into is that they did not read the directions, nor ask, about going to the front desk for everything the next day after their late arrival. Security’s job was done. The infamous icemaker: I’ve received more messages from this guest, after departure, about not renting a unit with a broken icemaker. Being clear, an icemaker, while a luxury, is not a reason to take a rental unit off the market. It is clearly marked as inoperable due to a reoccurring water leak and is scheduled to be replaced after the busy season this fall. Pets and other things out of our control: Owners at The Palms are allowed to have pets, guests, according to the COA rules, are not. To that extent, anything outside of the walls of the unit itself is the responsibility of the COA. We can complain and make suggestions to the COA, we can even call security on your behalf, because we want to ensure our guests have an enjoyable stay and make great memories, but that is the extent of our reach. My sincere aim is to make sure our guests have a valuable experience, one that they can make lasting memories with. We provide clean, up to date, condominium’s either overlooking pools or with ocean views. We make updates to them annually by replacing items when they need it. This unit will receive a new couch and new waterlines for the refrigerator, as well as a new paint job. There is always something that can be improved upon. That said, I welcome feedback from our guests because that is how we learn about items that need to be changed. ~Sam

Thank you for staying with us! We're so glad that you liked the place. It is a long walk all the way to the end of the hall, but it is worth it. Our units directly overlook the pools which is something you simply cannot get at the other end or middle of the hall. The carts are however always an issue. Just like any other place, they get used and not always brought back to their proper resting place for the next person. Come back again soon. ~Sam

Thanks for staying at Slice of Heaven Destin. We're so glad you had a great stay and were even able to use the pool and beach toys for the kids. We provide a fully stocked apartment style condo with all the amenities of home, including a roll of TP in each bathroom and paper towels in the kitchen. Outside of that, consumables and groceries are yours to bring in. Thanks again and hope to see you again next time in Destin.

Thank you for the review and for being great guests. I can sympathize with wanting to being on the beach with beach access. I wish the building were too. Fortunately the shuttle is a quick ride and if walking it's just a short 10 minutes across the highway. Also, please always remember your Hosts are not just a host, but also your concierge. Have a safe trip home.

Thank you for staying. Unfortunately, nothing was said about an odor, issue, or comfort problem during your stay. Come to think of it, we never heard back from you when checking to make sure you got in okay. Our guests' stay and comfort are very important to us. We can only address things we are made aware of, and we could have sent the cleaners back in to clean again or simply move you to another unit. Renovating or updating our units is done once a year after the high season is done and is scheduled for this unit in November. Safe travels home
