The facility is very nice, clean, charming, with lots of character. The personnel is well trained, courteous, and helpful.

The sond floor rooms have sloped ceiling that caused some occasional head bumps.

Although we had a pleasant stay at Winstead, sadly there were just too many issues we weren't happy with. Unfortunately, we had pre booked the hotel for eight nights at a cost of $608-$658 per night, so we couldn't leave early. The house is nice, old and full of character, there is a pool, and a beautiful garden. The Inn has their own beach, a short drive away, (not walkable). There is parking at the Inn but you need to check with the front desk about parking at the beach. Unfortunately, the room we had (chart room) had no tea or coffee making facilities and when we requested some, it took another four days to receive a kettle. There was hot water in the dining room, but it wasn't boiling. A suggestion was made to microwave it.. Our room had a lovely claw foot bath but on further inspection, paint was peeling off the inside of it making it unsafe to use. No bathrobes or shower gel available (just bars of soap). The breakfast was a very poor affair. There was no hot option except boiled eggs that sat on the buffet bar. There is no commercial kitchen so no cooking at all. We discovered that some mornings they buy in a quiche, and that's first come first serve. Available options included: a tiny bowl of fruit, some orange or cranberry cordial, generic sugary cereals, a bagel or English muffin , some chocolate muffins made from a packet, warm tea and coffee. If a hotel prices itself at such a high price point, I would expect a good breakfast, as we experienced in other places in Cape Cod. This was a most disappointing experience for us and at a cost of $6,130 for eight nights we would have expected better. We did chat with Doug, but the response was general indifference. Maybe it's because the hotel is up for sale. We move on to a wonderful B&B in Chatham which was one of the best places we have ever stayed on our travels around the world

    Property response:

Dear Ann, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m very sorry to hear that your stay with us didn’t meet your expectations, and I’d like to address a few of the concerns you raised. First and foremost, I want to apologize for the condition of the clawfoot tub in your room. It was scheduled to be refinished before the season began, but unfortunately, our contractor was unable to complete the work in time. That was our oversight, and I should have left a note clarifying that the tub, while functional, is more decorative at the moment. Thankfully, the room is also equipped with a full, modern shower and a spacious bathroom. Regarding in-room amenities, the Chart Room is one of our more economical accommodations, and as such, it doesn’t include a microwave or kitchenette features. However, we do our best to provide items like tea kettles upon request, and I regret that this took longer than it should have during your stay. I was especially surprised to read your comments about breakfast. Our team takes great pride in our offerings, and I’d like to clarify a few things for future guests who may read this. All of our muffins are baked from scratch each morning in-house using fresh ingredients—including fruit, spices, and seasonal flavors. We also serve fresh croissants daily, baked in our kitchen, as well as homemade breads such as banana and lemon loaves. While our breakfast is continental due to kitchen regulations, we offer a range of sweet and savory options, including hard-boiled eggs (which guests can time to their preference), fresh fruit, cereals, bagels, and more. Hot coffee and water are refreshed regularly throughout breakfast hours. Our toiletries come from Gilchrist & Soames, a premium brand that includes shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in each room, along with soap in two sizes. Bathrobes are available upon request, and we’re happy to provide additional items to make your stay more comfortable. We always strive to respond thoughtfully to guest concerns, and I’m genuinely sorry if our communication came across as indifferent. That is never our intention, and I will be revisiting this with our team. We truly appreciate feedback—positive or critical—as it helps us continue to improve. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your time in Chatham, and we wish you many wonderful travels ahead. Warm regards, Gregory Innkeeper, Winstead Inn

    Location was good.

Strange albeit nice. We had 3 rooms and the keys worked in multiple rooms which was concerning. The TV in the room didn’t offer basic stations you’d expect for a place that charges prices like that. Pool closed at 7pm which again is just really weird given it’s the cape and you’re gone most of the day. Generally, nice place at 300-400 a night but for double that price it just doesn’t have anything that justifies that other than supply and demand. Woman at the front desk was very nice and when she was there was always available.

EVERYTHING!!! The properties are incredible with stunning views, pool and beach house - the rooms are spacious and gorgeous - with an enormous amount of storage, beautifully furnished (solid wood, wonderful art hugging the walls). The staff is amazing, always super helpful, with genuine smiles, truly remarkable people. The breakfast options in the morning are super generous, including: warm homemade muffins (changing daily in flavor), banana bread, and mini croissants (also varying in flavor daily), yogurt (several options available), fresh fruit cups (at least 5-6 fruit varieties included and cut up in bite size), bagels, English muffins, boiled eggs, condiments, cereal (few varieties), milk, juice (2 options), coffee, tea, and quiche. They even serve warm cookies and fresh lemonade in the afternoon. Both properties are extremely clean, plenty of beach towels available at all times. Winstead Inn is treat and feels like being in paradise!

    Not staying long enough…

Our stay at this resort was, unfortunately, far from relaxing. We encountered several issues that really impacted our experience. First and most unsettling—there were ants in our room. One even crawled across my daughter’s face at 3am, waking her up in a panic. On top of that, when we turned down the beds, we found a long hair in one of them—definitely not what you expect when arriving at a “resort.” The pool was another disappointment. It was noticeably dirty, and while we were hoping for some family time in the morning, there’s an “adults only” swim from 8–10am. The kicker? The pool was completely empty during that entire time, which felt like such a waste. Another heads-up for future guests: the resort has two separate locations. If you don’t book a beachfront room, you’re restricted from parking near the beach except during limited hours. This was inconvenient and felt misleading. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay for our family. I rarely leave negative reviews, but in this case, I would not return and wouldn’t recommend it to others—especially families with young kids.

    Property response:

We’re sorry to hear your stay didn’t meet your expectations. While we appreciate guest feedback, we’d like to clarify several important points to ensure fairness and accuracy. Your reservation was made for two guests, but five people stayed in the room. This was not communicated in advance. While we always try to be accommodating, unexpected occupancy affects both room preparation and the overall guest experience. Regarding cleanliness, our housekeeping team services rooms multiple times a day and takes great pride in maintaining high standards. Had we been made aware of any concerns during your stay, we would have responded immediately. We care deeply about our guests comfort, but we can only act on issues that are brought to our attention while you were with us. The pool is cleaned and maintained daily—both in the early morning and again in the afternoon. The adults-only swim from 8–10am is a quiet window designed for guests seeking a peaceful start to the day. While the pool may appear empty, many guests value having that undisturbed option. If you felt something was off, we wish it had been mentioned so we could address it in real time. We also want to correct a false statement in your review: guests who do not book a beachfront room are not restricted from parking near the beach. All guests—whether staying at the Inn or the Beach Resort—are fully welcome to use the beachside facilities, including parking. On rare occasions when parking is full, we offer complimentary shuttle service. In your case, not only did you park at the beach, but we extended a courtesy well beyond our policy by allowing you to remain parked and use the beach until 2–3pm after your checkout time. We’re disappointed your experience didn’t reflect the hospitality and transparency we strive to provide. We take pride in the service we offer to all our guests and stand by the quality and care we put into every stay. We wish you all the best in your future travels.

The Winstead Inn is a hidden gem that we discovered for a brief Cape getaway. The staff were amazing and very knowledgeable about the area. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and the water pressure and temperature in the shower was ideal. The best part of the Inn was the grounds, which were extremely beautiful and well groomed. The pool felt like an oasis getaway, very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious with many options. We can't speak highly enough about this property and highly recommend it!

Nothing, we will be back next year!

Breakfast, the pool, the beach, some of the staff members were extremely friendly and kind.

Needing to request basic room necessities (towels, make the bed, etc). One day while staying at the beach hotel one of the young men working there asked us to clean up our beach chairs and umbrellas when we were finished with them. For the price spent per day, the staff should do this.

The cleanliness, the continental breakfast was exceptional. The grounds were well manicured. Quiet neighborhood.

It felt cold and unfriendly. A bit classist and judgmental of certain people. The windows don’t have anything but darkening shade and darkening curtain. My room was dark always because their were no privacy sheets and of shade was open someone else’s window was right there as well as the pool area. Very uncomfortable low end mattress.

    Property response:

Dianna, Sorry our new shades were still back ordered(will allow to lower from the top). Our mattresses are double pillow-tops, we are sorry that it was to soft for you.

Very cozy place with spacious and comfortable rooms! Everything was generally easy to navigate and figure out.

The breakfast was a bit disappointing, we were certainly expecting something a bit more thoughtful than a simple cold breakfast.

    Property response:

Thank you for your thoughts. We are sorry you did not like our daily quiche or helping yourself to our egg bath for soft or hard boiled eggs.
