How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewEverything was great, we would definitly recommend comming here. The location is situated perfectly in the old quarter but still quiet. Especially the staff was so friendly. A big big thanks to Kim who organized a 2day trip to Halong Bay for us. Everything went perfectly. If in Hanoi - stay at this Hotel!

Verified reviewThe location is amazing, right in the center and within walking distance of the weekend market. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, offering great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. While the hotel isn’t very close to Train Street, it’s easy to grab a taxi and get there quickly. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. Breakfast was really good, with plenty of options to choose from.
The cleanliness could be improved, especially in the shower area.

Verified reviewThis is a wonderful hotel. We stayed there with our children and the staff made every effort to ensure we felt welcome, comfortable and happy. The beds were comfortable, quiet and beautifully cleaned each day. Breakfast had far more choice than we were expecting and was delicious. Location was perfect. It is also fantastic to have an onsite spa after a long day walking around! We left a few days ago and my children still talk about how kind everyone was and how they'd love to go back!
Nothing!

Verified reviewThe staff were so fantastic - really helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Particular thanks to Tracey and Claire - they were both wonderful.
Our room had a window that looked at a concrete wall 30cm away. It was ok because we were only staying one night.

Verified reviewThe layout of these rooms were very efficient. It felt very spacious and there was plenty of bathroom counter space for toiletries. Kim was wonderful in helping us arrange our activities and responded very quickly to messages and the hotel staff were so friendly. We really miss this kind of customer service in the US. Some areas for improvement we would make is there are not enough electrical outlets next to the bed to plug our phones or other devices. Also the blow dryer in our room was too weak. Other than these minor inconveniences, we were very happy with our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel while in Hanoi. Thank you Emerald Waters staff for your friendly and helpful service during our trip!!

Verified reviewThe staff were all so welcoming and professional. They provided us with all the information we needed quickly and efficiently and provided us with a map on arrival, guiding us to train street. The rooms were spotlessly clean and there was a good choice for breakfast. The rooms were quiet yet in a great bustling location, near the lake in the Old Quarter.

Verified reviewThe staff were so friendly and helpful, including helping us with bags at the start and end of our stay, and calling our shuttle which was running a bit late so that we didn’t have to worry (just because it was a bit later than we’d told them it was coming, not because we looked worried!) The rooms were lovely and the hotel was right in the Old quarter and near Hoan Kiem lake and the water puppet theatre. It was a lovely quiet sanctuary from the fantastic chaos of Hanoi. The breakfast was also excellent with lots of options including freshly cooked hot options.

Verified reviewFantastic location next to Hoan Kiem Lake. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Kim, who arranged our 2 night stay in Lan Ha Bay (would highly recommend) and comfortable airport transfers. With our arrival before check-in, we really appreciated the hotel giving us breakfast and offering a room as soon as they could. Would recommend and many thanks for a lovely stay.

Verified reviewThis was our first stop after arriving in Vietnam. Kim was amazing at organising our halong bay tour and transfers to and from the hotel prior to arrival. The hotel was clean, quiet and perfect for the 5 of us with an interconnecting room that felt safe. It was central to the old quarter with useful information provided by the staff regarding street food recommendations and attractions. Really friendly staff with a good breakfast. Would highly recommend

Verified reviewOur stay was unexpected due to getting a stomach bug. But from the minute we arrive the staff were so attentive and nuturering. They brought us water and ginger and lemon tea. They checked in on us, and guided us where to eat to stay safe from any more tummy issues. I could not have felt so loved when I was feeling very home sick. A very big thank you to all the staff for your incredible kindness you are simply amazing, and we couldn't have chosen a better Hotel to stay while we recovered. 10 out of 10

Verified reviewFriendly and attentive staff. They provided us a very competitive airport transport as well. We did have one issue with the room.and they addressed it right away. Its a a very central location and walking distance to attractions.
Room decor can do with an uplift but they were not dirty by any means.

Verified reviewFacilities were very nice and location near the old quarter and Sword Lake was very convenient. But best of all, the hotel provided a WhatsApp contact point (Jennie) who was outstanding. She helped us with airport transfer before we arrived and car hire to Sa Pa even after we had left. Cannot speak highly enough of her and the initiative of the hotel in providing the contact point and service. She’d get a job anywhere in Australia.
