How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe only stayed for one night but the room was comfortable, very spacious, with a huge bed, a kettle and there were some local guidebooks. The lady who is running this place was very friendly. Great location.
Our room was on 4th floor with no lift which meant a lot of stairs (and it was pretty hot), but we saw there were also rooms on lower floors.

Verified reviewAlice and her family are the most amazing hosts. I’ve been travelling for almost 4 months across South East Asia and this has been without a doubt the best place. Extremely cosy, incredibly friendly, and amazing value for money. The location is perfect, away from the busy Old Quarter but still within walking distance. The rooms are spacious and clean. Very comfortable beds. Alice is a fantastic host; booked me a 3 day tour around Ha Giang, did some laundry for me whilst I was gone, helped me book a bus to Ha Long. She was willing to go above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Couldn’t recommend this hotel enough if you’re staying in Hanoi.

Verified reviewGreat value for the price! The room was spacious and had everything I needed — full utilities, comfortable, and well-equipped. The host was very friendly and accommodating; she even let me leave my things at the property while I made a quick trip out of Hanoi. Overall, a comfortable and affordable stay. Would definitely recommend!

Verified reviewThe room and hotel is actually quite pleasant. The only thing was that there was building construction going on next door which made very loud noise during the day. This is not the fault of the hotel, but still the noise is there. Once the construction next door is completed, it will be wonderful.

Verified reviewAs an older couple, 65 & 74, our room on the 2nd floor was still a hike up 3 flights of spiral stairway with limited lighting even to see the keyhole to enter/exit our room with our key. It was our first experience staying at a homestay and would not stay anymore. One reason is, all of the guest footwear has to stay outside of the door for cleanliness reasons, but my feet was dirty after my first time having no footwear on in the house. It was inconvenient to remove/put on footwear for not having a place to sit to do so except among the 2 dirty steps and much footwear also having limited lighting. I felt unsafe everywhere on the property for my husband and I except on the room. Of the 7 days of our stay, we had no cleaning. We asked for towels twice, neither did they replenish supplies like toiletries. The entries common area was unorganized, messy with anything you can think of. Alice & her husband are nice people but very busy people. He has a fulltime job and she takes care of a 2-year-old. Once, she asked me to come downstairs upon returning from our full day out to settle the payment the day before checkout, which I gladly agreed only to be put on hold there in the entrance common area where they have no a/c for the guest. I was there about 30 mins, kept being put on hold, "sorry, I'm so busy," malice repeatedly stated as she answered her phone calls, texted, etc... I gave her the fee but no receipt. I suggested to take a photo holding the total of usd up, only to be put on hold again. I was hot, miserable, just returned and wanted the a/c badly only to accomodate her by perspiring in her common area, living room. Finally, I left without my receipt to go into our rooms a/c which she eventually came and supplied me with an actual receipt. In our opinion, this stay was overpriced.
Dear Mrs. Prudence, I truly appreciated your stay at my house. However, I would like to inform some imformation untrue about my house. - First, We informed right away after you booked about my house, we arranged the lowest room on 2nd floor for you. You must to clim up the room by stairs. You accepted about this. We always turn on the lights in the hallway. We also provided a full range of indoor slippers for you. - Second: I wrote messaged for you about cleaning the room but you did not reply to me. Then when I met you I asked again but you said no need just changing your towels were enough. We provided all the necessary equipment for you. Even when you left there are still two large rolls of toilet paper and a big bottle of shampoo left unused. - Third: Regarding the payment of the room. Normally the payment is due upon arrival but because you arrived late at midnight and you said you were tired, I did not request immediate payment. I requested payment after five days. But you said you haven't check out yet. Then you went down to the lobby and accepted the payment but you didn't give me the money right away but you sat and told me about your family's story complaining about your husband and mother. you talked about a lot of things I thought you wanted to share the story so I listened too. I'm sure you remember what you told me. After about 30 minutes, you took the money out of your wallet. At that time, I had my phone. You asked me to take a photo as proof . I happily agreed. However, you said that the photo did not clearly show each amount because I was busy on the phone. So you took the money back and went to your room. Then I went up to the room to give you the bill and let you take a clear picture as you wished. During the whole process you were very happy talking and laughing with me and never complained about anything. I always appreciate every customer's feedback and always hope that every guest coming to my house feels happy like at home. Best regards Alice
