How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBreakfast was not included
WiFi, power, and water all dropped out at various times, mainly connected with construction work at the building next door. Staff were quick to get repairs under way as soon as possible.

Verified reviewWe had an excellent stay at Joye Hotel. The staff gave us a warm welcome and were always available with helpful advice and suggestions on tours and places to visit. Our room was spacious, clean, and included a balcony overlooking a busy street, which gave us a great sense of the city’s energy. The hotel’s location is perfect—just a short walk to the Old Quarter and for people watching in the busy street below. It can be loud at night, but that didn't bother us. Great value for money—we’d definitely stay here again!
Just the mattress, but I now know that that is standard in Vietnam, and you get used to it.

Verified reviewGreat option to stay in Hanoi Old Quarter with Beer Street just around the corner, with large, clean and comfortable rooms. Staff was very kind and helpful with booking transfers and activities. Perfect option for a solo traveller. Thank you for the hospitality.

Verified reviewA good location! Nice tours available to purchase from reception. Water to buy downstairs at better price than the shops. Airport pick up and drop off available for a good price too. :)
Room had a 'window' but looked out onto a brick wall, so the room was very dark and required artificial lighting at all hours (although conscious there are other rooms with daylight). An unusual policy of having to hand in your key every time you leave the property. Not ideal if you want to explore Hà Nội at night and come back late as you have to wake up management. Met up with an old friend at the hotel for a beer but they too are required to have their passport, which I understand is for security reasons but made them feel very uncomfortable and eager to leave.

Verified reviewThe staff were really kind & helpful, made every effort to make it a good experience for me as a solo female traveller. And the location was excellent - super central and close to the bus stops that take you out to other towns (Ha Long, Ha Giang etc).

Verified reviewThe location is perfect for people who want to enjoy the night life of Hanoi. Many restaurants near the hotel and also the highway bus stop is near.
The hotel doesn’t have a lift and we have to carry our baggage to upper floors by ourselves. It is noisy at night because of its location.

Verified reviewLocation is very close to Old Quarter attractions Staff are friendly
Despite communicating in advance repeatedly about booking a taxi with Joye Hotel, they decided not to tell us in advance that our room had been double booked until we arrived at the hotel after a long day of traveling. We were told we must stay at the hotel next door, which was poorly rated on booking.com. Obviously this was not a welcome introduction to the hotel and it's disappointing they chose to proceed this way WiFi connection intermittent.

Verified reviewThe staff was really nice an helpful! When I arrived I was quite sick so they gave me a free late check out for the next day and were super helpful, even printing out my boarding pass for free and organizing me an airport transfer for 10 Dollars. They also allow card payment, which was super helpful to me. I would recommend staying here!

Verified reviewI liked the location
No elevator, dirty stairs with no railing on the 4th floor, the room felt dirty and although I ended up staying at a different hotel with my friend for one night when I sat down on the bed to pack I couldn't believe how hard the bed was. Seriously!! Also, when I arrived to find it was a walk-up, the owner said I should read the details. I went back through the details on Booking.com and there wasn't anything about no elevator mentioned. The pictures do not look like the actual facility.
