Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIts not a criticism, just fair warning to others. The internal stairs are steep & tight. The toilet/shower is on the ground floor, town a little lounge, then the bedroom. So you have to be able to take your luggage up the stairs. We didn't find it an issue
Great location in the Old Quarter. Down a quiet narrow alley. The whole building to ourselves, three usable floors, two spares & a little roof terrace. Run by such a nice young couple who couldn't have been nicer. It's such a cute little place we recommend

ItalyThe owner is really nice and helpful! He changed the towels and the sheets twice. Location is perfect and you can go wherever you want in no time. The stairs are really small but you get used to.

United StatesThis stay was difficult to locate. Our driver dropped us off at another location and he was confused as well. There is a photo for reference when you book so just make sure you’re looking for that when attempting to locate. The staff was friendly and very helpful they even sent us restaurant recommendations for the area. It is in a good location in the center of shops and restaurants. The place itself has about 6 floors leading by up to the terrace. The room is located on the 3rd floor.

United KingdomI do think the place needs some extra cleanliness and a freshen up . I understand it is an old building but more reason to do more with it. Photos may be slightly outdated. Maybe we got unlucky on our stay as we asked for an earlier check in which could have caused rushing but it definitely needed a better clean and some more love in general - a few of the floors are a bit of wasted space/storage for random things which is a shame as it has a lot of potential. I think it would be even better with a spruce up / freshen up and maybe some DIY. Still enjoyed our stay ! :)
This place is cool if you are up for something totally different and a little quirky. You get 5 floors all to yourself up a little tiny spiral stairway so if you don't like small spaces or stairs I would not recommend. I thought it was fun. It is pretty noisy so if you are sensitive to sound I would bring earplugs. I am glad we gave it a go and I would recommend it but it's not for everyone. Bed was comfy. The host was super friendly and responsive..he walked us to the place and then dropped off our big bags while it was raining heavily and gave us an umbrella - very thoughtful! ❤️

PolandHit my head a lot but I'm on a taller side (193cm). Saw some bugs on my way out (the apt is hidden deeper from the street) but I guess it's expected due to it being so close to street restaurants. None in the apt itself though so that's good!
Pretty steep stairs and it's s Very small apt, Room size but nonetheless good value for the money! It's small rooms but a lot in number if you don't mind going up/down the stairs. Exceptional location and the place had all amenities needed for a short stay in old quarter Last but not least, a lovely, supportive host

New ZealandA little dirty, and saw a cockroach but nothing crazy.
Awesome location, cool little place - you get the whole house to yourself. House is 6 floors, but each floor is very small, definitely only book if you’re comfortable walking up and down steep staircases. Staff was lovely and helpful too.

AustraliaIt's an apartment over 3 floors, bathroom 1st floor, sitting area 2nd floor and bedroom on top. It suited my needs as it's right near sapa express bus stop so just spent 1 night. It's very quirky space with a narrow spiral staircase so you gotta be agile to navigate up n down. Everything is on your doorstep.

VietnamIt’s a bit scary to go down and up the stairs at night, since the toilet is in the 1st floor. The TV has some glitches, but it doesn’t affect my stay much.
You basically have the whole place for yourself. Literally a “building” with 5-6 floors, each is a small room. It has good privacy, and the owner is very kind and helpful. The location is just perfect, right in the middle of the Old Quarter.

ItalyThe flat doesn't have windows and it was a bit dirty. The entrance is a bit sketchy but secure as there are always people outside at the tour agency. In the bathroom there's no surface to put things on (eg clothes, beauty case, towels...)
I thought I booked a room but ended up having an entire flat for myself, which was nice. Great location in the very centre of Hanoi. The property manager is an extremely nice and helpful guy, he insisted on giving me typical Vietnamese cake and changing the bed sheets even if I was leaving the day after. I knew I could contact him for whichever problem.

United KingdomThe owner was very responsive and keen to make it an enjoyable stay. It's worth noting there is no window in the accommodation and it's a very narrow, tall property down an alley way with a lot of steep steps over 3 floors The mattress is down on the floor of the bedroom on a wooden base but it is comfortable. You'd need to be fairly slim and mobile in this accommodation to move freely. Unfortunately there was a flood in Hanoi on my first night. The owner came to the property to try and fix the leaks. He was so worried I would give a bad review. But the storm wasn't his fault and he did his best to sort it out. I did not stay the planned second night even though works were underway to fix the issues from the leak - including electrics but he was very understanding/reasonable and gave me a refund minus fees. It's a very central location. Does what it says on the tin. Bathroom has seen better days (I shared it with a cockroach - but again that's no-one's fault) but the shower is remarkably efficient. The owner has done his absolute best to make it welcoming and as I say he really is a warm, friendly, kind host.

Russia1. Be aware that there are no windows in the house, at all… If you are claustrophobic it could be not so comfortable. I was ok with it as far as there was a/c and no noise (no windows - no noise ))) 2. Also the bathroom is on the ground floor and the bedroom is on the 2nd floor. Don’t drink much water before you go to bed )) 3. The entrance is a bit scary, especially if you come back to the house late at night. 4. No fridge.
1. Location is wonderful, you are just near the lake! 2. The host was polite and friendly. 3. I slept well as I heard no noise at all.
