I had such a wonderful stay at Tigon Hostel! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I arrived, which made me feel right at home. I joined the day tour and it was absolutely worth it, the guide was so knowledgeable and shared so much about Da Lat’s history, culture, and hidden gems. It felt like a really authentic experience. The family dinner in the evening was another highlight: delicious food, great atmosphere, and such a nice way to connect with other travelers. Overall, Tigon Hostel really exceeded my expectations. It has such a warm, friendly vibe, and I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Da Lat. Highly recommend!

Without a doubt, this is the best hostel you can stay in Dalat. Everyone at the property is friendly and welcoming. Family dinners are organized to meet other guests and socialize, and afterward, you can have a great time with activities like karaoke, billiards, or beer pong. In addition, there's a shuttle to the Maze Bar in the evenings. Services like scooter rental and laundry are also available. Local tours are also available, for one-day or overnight stays. I highly recommend it.

    nothing to dont like about

Everything good was ruined by the staff interaction

I wasn’t going to leave a review, but after seeing that my booking was cancelled by the hostel (I had stayed there and already payed at checkout) and was going to be charged a cancellation fee, despite me messaging them asking why (to no response), I decided I’d leave a review. First of all, my passport is legally government property, and cannot be used as a deposit, even if it is kept in a safe and protected, I am not legally allowed to hand it over to anyone to keep. I am grateful you allowed me to pay the deposit in cash instead, however 1 million dong is a bit much (especially after another staff member said 500k), for future guests I would suggest either a 500k deposit, or just take a photo of the passport like every other hostel I have stayed at (in and outside of Vietnam) Your excuse of “you’re in my country” is extremely condescending, the fact you couldn’t even understand my point of view (my passport being my most important thing in my possession, and being unable to give it away) is very worrying, and after reading other reviews, it seems I’m not the only one. I am grateful you stayed awake to check me in at 2:00 am (that you do rudely mentioned, and despite being advertised as 24h reception anyway) and the room was quite nice despite the bathrooms not being on the same floor. This is a cheap hostel, yes, I’ve read your responses to other reviews “you book a cheap hostel, why not pay more for a better hostel” and that’s simply not how it works. I am the manager of a pub / hotel in Australia, and if I responded the way you do to guests, I would be fired. I can’t wait to see how you reply to this review, because it is completely honest, I wasn’t at all rude upon check in or check out, maybe a little tired as it was 2:00 am and very worried for the safety of my passport, especially after you constantly started talking over me while I was trying to explain my point.

    Property response:

Thank you for your review, though it’s unfortunate that it’s based on misunderstanding, false assumptions, and selective memory. We value honest criticism—but we also believe in correcting the record when needed. Regarding the passport and deposit policy: We never forced you to hand over your passport. We gave you a choice—leave it in our secure safe or pay a refundable deposit. You chose to pay 1,000,000 VND, and we accepted it without issue. Complaining after the fact is unreasonable. One staff member may have quoted 500,000 VND in another context (e.g., dorms), but that doesn’t make our policy inconsistent or unfair. This rule exists because we’ve had guests run off without paying or cause damages. If other hostels do it differently, that’s their choice. Ours is based on real experience. About the “You’re in my country” comment: This was not said to insult you. It was to remind you that Vietnamese policies and norms apply here. You came into our country, disregarded our procedures, and insisted we follow your personal view of what’s “legal.” That’s not how international travel works. Respect for local culture is basic courtesy. Check-in at 2:00 am: Yes, we offer 24h check-in, but that doesn’t mean our staff aren’t humans. Someone stayed up late just for you. A little appreciation would go a long way. Turning this into another complaint just shows your mindset. The cancellation fee issue: You claim we cancelled your booking. That’s incorrect. Your booking was marked as cancelled, likely due to a Booking.com sync or your own action. That triggered an automatic 70,000 VND cancellation fee—not something we charged manually. You can verify this with Booking.com. We also have CCTV and check-in records showing you stayed and paid. We didn’t scam you. About the attempt to book another night: You were told no rooms were available because, at that moment, we had none. You checked online and saw availability later—that happens when booking systems aren’t instantly synced. There was no dishonesty or rejection. Regarding your behavior: You say you were polite. Staff recall someone who was defensive, spoke over people, and didn’t listen. You may have felt anxious, but the energy you brought created tension, not us. Most concerning is your claim that the room was dirty. You entered, stayed the night, and left without any complaint. Later saying it was dirty is simply false. We clean rooms daily. For a budget hostel, our cleanliness exceeds expectations. Guests staying the same night had no complaints. If it were truly a problem, you should have raised it then. Next: This hostel was not built to steal passports. It was built by Vietnamese people who have dealt with many difficult guests over the years. Our policies are designed for fairness and safety—for us and for other guests. You weren’t mistreated. You were held to the same standard as everyone else. The feeling of being “unsafe” came from your own assumptions, not from anything we did. To all future guests: If you come here with mutual respect, we often go the extra mile. Many guests have received free nights, local help, and support—ask them. But if you bring distrust, entitlement, and disrespect for our country, this is not the place for you. We did not create this hostel to trap or trick anyone. We created it to offer something fair and welcoming—to those who value accountability and shared respect. If you cannot give that, you will be asked to leave. And you will leave not because we harmed you, but because your own mindset could not accept fairness and local rules. And yes—you entered the room, stayed, and paid. It was clean. Please stop lying.

Thank you for your review, though it’s unfortunate that it’s based on misunderstanding, false assumptions, and selective memory. We value honest criticism—but we also believe in correcting the record when needed. Regarding the passport and… Show more
