Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SlovakiaI enjoyed my stay at Apaula Heights Lounge. Josie, the owner, was very helpful and made sure my stay is as good as possible. I really appreciate her waking up early morning just to check me in because my flight arrived in early morning hours. Breakfast was tasty and very big portion. Room was spacious and bed comfortable. I also enjoyed having a fan in my room that really helped with the heat.

United KingdomIf I wanted to nit pick i could say that despite being set quite high up above the town, the noise drifts up in the evening - music from a club or bar, a church service. The acoustics are surprising. But it still has a peaceful air. The property is home to a large pack of dogs, which might be something to consider if you're nervous around them. They didn't bother me while I was there and didn't seem to bark much. There are a few mosquitoes around, and holes around the door where they could come in, but I only heard one in the room. Quite a few outside. Bring repellent.
I loved the little wooden cabin, like a Wendy house, with its sunny deck overlooking Apia; and the outside shower surrounded by tropical plants. The bed is firm but very comfortable. The breakfast is huge and varied, with lots of fruit, real coffee and decent bread. It's not far from the centre, you can walk in 15/20 minutes down hill, though you'd probably want a taxi coming back. (It's not on a bus route)

New ZealandWalking to the property at night. The neighbourhood dogs could be an issue for those that don’t like dogs. Just take a taxi in the evening.
Breakfast was very good. Different ever morning that we stayed (3j Nice room overlooking the town. Bed was good. Had shower outside near our room and it was nice to shower amongst the flora.

New ZealandApaula Heights was centrally located in Apia. We really enjoyed the hospitality of the host and their family. They greeted us when we arrived and prepared an amazing breakfast for us during our stay. The shower and toilet are located outside the room, but you get very good privacy. Would be happy to return in the near future. Thank you for having us.

Australia-
Such a nice stay. This is a fantastic hotel managed by a great family. The breakfast is absolutely delicious and abundant, but also you can order a fresh fish dinner they prepare, with the best fish caught the night before with their own fishing boat. In case you need an experienced tour guide I highly recommend their uncle Eti Sapolu, who can take you to all the beautiful sights at the island.

United KingdomI have learnt that in the South Pacific there are chickens roaming around everywhere. The roosters start crowing at about 5 am every morning. Then there are the dogs. Every house seems to have several and they bark at anything passing their owners house. This can go on all night. Forget about a quiet nights sleep! Apaula heights is walking distance from town but I was put off because of the dogs. My hosts told me how to deal with them but I didn’t feel good about walking past them.
This is the South Pacific so anyone going there has to adjust their expectations unless of course you stay in a large international hotel. Even then there are things you cannot control. The people are lovely. My hosts in particular, couldn’t have done any more for me if they tried. They arranged my transport from the airport, got me a guide and if they were going out they asked me if I wanted to tag along. All members of the family sat and chatted to me and made me feel part of the family. Sunday lunch is a big thing there so I got to experience the food, how it’s made and course it’s taste. Delicious!
