How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Thank you Benedetta for your warm words and thank you for also choosing our place to stay at. We appreciated your positive energy and happy vibes. We wish you safe travels ahead. Fa'afetai lava (thank you very much)!

Verified reviewThe location is so nice, however the facilities itself need some renovation, cleanliness need to be improve and keep the dog outside from entering the facilities.
facilities were to old
Thank you for your feedback. Please note that for every booking that is made, we inform our guests that we do have dogs on site for security purposes. You are entitled to find alternative accommodation if dogs on site, are not to your liking. It is unfortunate that you raised your cleanliness concerns with us after your 6-7 day stay, which we could have addressed and informed you what had been cleaned before and during your stay. We beg to differ from your views on the facilities as being old, given the studio you stayed in was built in 2022. If you had raised concerns about the history of your room or facilities with one of our staff during your stay, we would have been happy to inform you of the history of our premises. With regards to the value for money, given you had booked just shy of 2 days before your arrival and our rates are very much the same throughout the year without price-hikes for latecomers, we disagree with your rating of value for money. We offer budget-friendly accommodation and we also offered you free-transport/rides to and from certain destinations, which we hope would have also helped with your travel-budget and getting around the urban area of Apia. Safe travels ahead.

Verified reviewThe stay overall was pretty good. The room had all you need, including a fan and much needed mosquito coils. Big tasty breakfast. The landlady was nice and helpful and cooked a very tasty dinner (dinner available on request). It's about a 15 minutes walk into the city down the hill.
The landlord seemed to have no love for his country and its people, which left me feel strange on the sightseeing tours he offered. Also felt like I was overcharged, especially as I found out that just the taxi fare (without sightseeing) would have been about half the price of what he stated. Personally I would explore Apia on foot next time, or just head out to one of the beach fales right away.
Thank you Corinne for your feedback. Please note that the landlord, was not the landlord of the property, but rather a temporary staff member who offered tours that were separate from Apaula Heights Lounge Bed and Breakfast. We understand that the tour that was offered, included numerous sites between our place and your next destination, which in the tour-guide's opinion, was reasonable as opposed to to a taxi, without stopping at those sites, would have logically been cheaper. The tour-guide also has a love for his country, though his banter may have been misinterpreted as the opposite. Nonetheless, we're glad you enjoyed our big tasty breakfasts and dinner. We are mindful of our guests walking from our place to town, which can be draining thus we serve big meals to ensure our guests have plenty of energy for their adventures in Samoa. We were also glad to provide you with a complimentary late-night dinner upon your arrival (covered by the landlady), given most restaurants and shops were closed during the Long weekend/Public Holiday weekend. We wish you safe travels ahead. Thank you.

Verified reviewI enjoyed my stay at Apaula Heights Lounge. Josie, the owner, was very helpful and made sure my stay is as good as possible. I really appreciate her waking up early morning just to check me in because my flight arrived in early morning hours. Breakfast was tasty and very big portion. Room was spacious and bed comfortable. I also enjoyed having a fan in my room that really helped with the heat.
Thank you for your feedback, Patricia. It was our pleasure to host you and it was no problem at all, waking up for guests who check in early or later than our usual opening hours. We're glad you enjoyed the tasty breakfast, spacious room, comfortable bed and indoor fan. We wish you safe travels ahead. Thank you.

Verified reviewI loved the little wooden cabin, like a Wendy house, with its sunny deck overlooking Apia; and the outside shower surrounded by tropical plants. The bed is firm but very comfortable. The breakfast is huge and varied, with lots of fruit, real coffee and decent bread. It's not far from the centre, you can walk in 15/20 minutes down hill, though you'd probably want a taxi coming back. (It's not on a bus route)
If I wanted to nit pick i could say that despite being set quite high up above the town, the noise drifts up in the evening - music from a club or bar, a church service. The acoustics are surprising. But it still has a peaceful air. The property is home to a large pack of dogs, which might be something to consider if you're nervous around them. They didn't bother me while I was there and didn't seem to bark much. There are a few mosquitoes around, and holes around the door where they could come in, but I only heard one in the room. Quite a few outside. Bring repellent.
Thanks for your feedback, Mary. We appreciate your detailed feedback as it is very helpful for both us as hosts, and prospective guests at our property. Despite being a 15/20 minute walk from our place to town, the noise from town is still able to travel up to our neighbourhood. The noise, however, is often musical (especially Church music) which is a testament to the lively culture in the urban areas of Samoa. We wish you safe travels ahead. Thank you.

Though there is no aircon available, our beds were super comfy and clean. My family appreciated the extra effort we received to make our stay very pleasant. The best host to have, highly reccommended.

Walking to the property at night. The neighbourhood dogs could be an issue for those that don’t like dogs. Just take a taxi in the evening.
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your acknowledgment of our breakfast and our outdoor-shower with flora. Because we are in a residential area and neighbours are exposed to security-breaches, this has lead to our area having many dogs. We do encourage our guests to take taxis if this is a concern for our guests.
