Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

South AfricaThe 12km gravel road leading to Ditholo is rather bad!
Accommodation is modern and very comfortable, the kitchen has everything needed for self catering. Rooms are really spacious and beds are comfortable. One comment I have to make, from the description we understood each room has it's own bathroom, but rooms 3 and 4 actually share the same bathroom. (which was not a problem, it was just not mentioned in the description). Beautiful splash pool which is well maintained, and also a nice outside boma. The cleaning service was exceptional! Daily visits from the Nyalas was an added bonus!

South AfricaThere were minor plumbing issues in the bathrooms of Units 3 and 4, where water tended to flow slightly outward. While it didn’t affect normal shower use, it could be improved to ensure a more comfortable experience. Some areas of the lodge, including door runners and shower water pressure, could benefit from a bit of maintenance. The gravel road leading to the lodge was a bit challenging, especially after rain. Could be difficult for smaller vehicles. It’s something to consider when planning your arrival.
The accommodation was spacious, very clean, and thoughtfully equipped. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed for a self-catering stay. Really enjoyed the private splash pool and the boma area with a built-in braai, it was perfect for relaxing in the evenings and made for a great social space. The lodge is set in a peaceful, secluded part of the wildlife estate. It was a treat to see animals like nyala and kudu roaming nearby, truly a tranquil bush experience. The host Susan was responsive and helpful throughout our stay. Any questions or minor issues were dealt with promptly and professionally.

South AfricaYou cant forget anything because the shops are a bit far especially because of the Gravel road. Besides that everything else is fantastic.
The views and the serenity of the place was fantastic. The cleanliness and the atmosphere of the place was lovely. The pool area and the fire pit is easily accessible.

South AfricaThe unit requires some maintenance and deep cleaning. It isn't great that you can't self-drive around the Ditholo estate as it would be a nice activity (game drives for a big family get expensive).
Susan was very communicative and helpful. The pool is great and a nice bonus for a Summer bush break. Aircons and solar/backup power is great.

United KingdomThe pool could do with a cover and a pump and creepy Crawley that works. I know load shedding is a reality but makes it very difficult and very hot when there is no back up generator. The facilities at the lodge itself could be better. Aside from Steve (oupa) at the bar being incredibly helpful, we were unable to order any food for lunch and the bar wasn’t stocked very well. Communications should either come from the duty manager or the owner as opposed to both. There was a lot of information given that we feel could be streamlined a little better.
The lodge itself is nice in takes of space and amenities. The pool is great but it could do with a pool cover to prevent all the bugs landing in it and the dirt collecting at the bottom. Loved the outdoor shower and the beds were great. Having someone to clean each day was a great touch as well.

South AfricaWe did not receive directions prior to our departure which ended up in a 1h30 detour as following Google Maps takes you to the incorrect location. We eventually called the booking host (Susan White) and she then only sent the directions which clearly states not to follow Google Maps. We should have received this info prior or immediately upon making the booking. It should be stated in the Booking.com confirmation. This was extremely frustrating as we drove for over an hour on a dirt road with a toddler and baby which resulted in us arriving 1h30 later than expected (as per Google Maps). Once we arrived, we needed to get dinner going and there were no firelighters to start the fire so we had to unpack the car and try and make another plan to get the kids fed and braai started which resulted in dinner being served much later than expected too and very unhappy kids. Arriving for a weekend away is supposed to be relaxing not stressful. The house also needs some general maintenance. The guest rooms (next to the kitchen) need maintenance. The runners on the doors which open up to the patio are worn which makes opening and closing the doors very difficult. The shower on that side does not spray well (again maintenance required). There was no toilet paper in the guest loo. There were lipstick marks on a few of the cups.
The house was lovely

South AfricaThe house was still being worked on on the outside, there was danger tape on most areas outside. When we arrived we thought we were at the wrong house because of the open hole and plumbing work that was being done outside by the entrance of the house and outside when you go to room 3 and 4. It was a bit unsafe because we have a two year old curious daughter. All the main attractions of the house were magnificent.
We enjoyed everything about the house, especially the outside showers at night. Inside the house is very inviting and you wouldn't want to leave. The weather was perfect, so we had all our meals outside by the patio near the swimming pool.

South AfricaThere was broken glass and cigarette stomps around the pool that were not cleaned, I guess from previous guests, which the kids could've missed because of excitement. Bathrooms need a bit of maintenance, which I have already shared with the host.
It's a beautiful home with a splashpool, which the kids enjoyed. Lovely quiet stay for the family and got to spot many animals. Our favorite were the giraffes.

South AfricaThe dirt road to the lodge was less pleasant. An ice maker in the villa will be a bonus as one cannot buy ice on the premises. Another big fridge would be nice to have especially during hotter months and with a full house. Could not use garage, alternative form of shaded parking would've been nice.
Being in the bush, away from the hussle and bussle of the city. Weak cell reception was good thing as we could spend some quality time together as a family. Dishwasher and washing machine are a bonus. Beds were very comfortable. Some maintenance is needed, but this did not influence our stay negatively. The sparkling pool was our lifesaver to escape the heat, as were the airconditioners in all the rooms.
