Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

South AfricaWe stayed for 2 nights...I needed a 3rd! A caution to anyone of a sensitive disposition - it is a game farm that presumably makes most of its income through its game. This also means it is a hunting farm, so be prepared for the decor in the lappa - lots of animal heads and skins. A lot of the game are also unusual breeds - half-white springbok, fully white or black springbok, golden wildebeest, etc. Some people may find this beyond their reasonable comfort. If you can get past that though, this place really is divine. For others, I should imagine this is just an added draw card!
Our stay at Baardbos was exceptional. The hosts Reve and Christiaan are wonderful, and very accommodating. My group happened to book out the entire place - all 7 chalets. The chalets are the perfect balance between comfort and simplicity. We stayed in the heart of winter and found them to be very warm and cosy too. The comfort chalets have an enclosed patio deck, whereas the standard chalets have this area open. All chalets are fully kitted out for self-catering and also all have a built-in braai. The property also has a BIG lappa which is kitted out with nearly everything you could need. A pool, a MASSIVE braai (you could do a spit in it), FULLY stock honesty bar, kitchen with stove, oven, fridge, deep freeze, and all the cutlery, crockery, cookware, serving dishes etc. you could need, R2 coin operated pool table, foozeball table, TV and sound bar, 12 seater dining room table, and comfy couches. The building has big sliding doors that open the whole place up, which must be amazing in the summertime. The farm boasts an array of interesting game and plentiful birdlife - I could have spent hours walking about searching for species. The farm although not huge, is big enough to lose yourself in nature for a while. You are welcome to walk around. There are also 4x4 tracks which you are welcome to drive around on - be warned, you very seriously need a 4x4. Your wannabe off-road all-wheel or 2-wheel drive high-clearance bakkie WILL NOT MAKE IT - the hills are fynbos covered sand dunes, and the sand is very, very soft. We had a Toyota Fortuner 4x4 which we took around, it managed well, and we had a lot of fun taking drinks up to the top of the hill to watch the sun go down. Baardbos goes down as one of my favourite holidays ever, and me and my partner at least will be returning.

GermanyStay at Baardbos and get lost to the world, watch golden Wildebeest and white Springbok while you enjoy the quiet of nature - no cell phone signal to disturb you! We had very bad weather during our stay, so we enjoyed the view through our windows, snuggled up in our blanket with a hot cup of tea and a good book; it was a lovely break from the bustle of every day life in the city.

South AfricaThe only thing i can think off, is that there was no coal pilier. That is something no one ever thinks about, but is always needed at a braai.
Everything was lovely. The view was nice and the lapa is an additional bonus. Had everything you need and very thoughtful with the chocolates on the bed. Had a great time and great stay. Thank you so much.

South AfricaAs many of the other reviewers have noted, the road leading to the accommodation is a rather rough dirt road. But I managed in a Toyota Yaris with low profile tyres, so it is definitely doable. This is more a word of warning than a slight against the accommodation.
The peace you experience at this accommodation is unrivalled. The wildlife is stunning, abundant, and close around you at all times. Sitting in our accommodation watching animals pass the window as the sun drops into the valley was an unreal experience. Also, the "Lapa" situated on the farm offers some awesome amenities (pool, hot tub, pool table... to name a few) to make the stay that much more pleasant.

South AfricaWe had the pleasure of staying a full week at Baardbos and even then it felt too short for this lovely place. Plenty of respect for the owners for preserving the natural indigenous fynbos on the farm which attracts plenty of bird species and other fauna. Perfect place to unwind from the daily ratrace with features for both the active and passive visitor. Game drives, hiking, bird watching, kol-kol, (game room, bar, pool, wifi at the lapa - if really required), animal encounters (yes, the owners care so well for their animals that some of them will even take food out of your hands). Other activities nearby include cycling (more than 100 km of gravel roads), fishing, (wine, gin & cheese tasting) etc. Cabins are clean, cosy and offer stunning views of the farm and the game which grazes near your stoep every morning. Lovely and friendly hosts! Enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back soonest.

South AfricaThis is truly an incredible place to experience! One of the standout features is the opportunity to hike across the entire property, offering a fresh and intimate perspective on the diverse animals that call this area home. It’s not just about spotting wildlife from a distance – it’s about immersing yourself in their environment, seeing their natural behaviors up close. The chalets provide an unbeatable vantage point, overlooking a sprawling field and a waterhole. Watching the animals graze peacefully or gather to drink water is nothing short of mesmerizing. It feels like you’re part of a live nature documentary, with every moment offering something unique and unforgettable.

South AfricaIt's not really a negative for the place but the 10km "farm" road to get to the game reserve is best driven with a 4x4 or a car with a bit of height.
The peace and quiet, and calm atmosphere really made for a relaxing time away. We really felt a part of nature with a bit of creature comforts in the charming chalet. The welcoming touches of a jar of biscuits, tea and coffee was a pleasant surprise. Enjoying breakfast with the beautiful view of the animals also enjoying some food, really was a special touch.

South AfricaI would invest in a little bigger and more comfortable bed. I would also appreciate a "toe knyp rooster" and something to use on the coals to move them around like a tong, or maybe just say beforehand to bring your own.
I like how secluded and private it was. I also liked being able to self check in and out. I loved seeing the wildlife and being that close to them. If you are looking for rest and relaxation this is the place for you.

South AfricaThe bathroom is a bit tight and small.
The location and setting was so peaceful, the bonus part of the entire trip was the fact that there was no cell phone reception. We needed the quiet time, with only the fire crackling in the background and the sounds of nature! My daughter enjoyed it so much especially the animals she did not want to leave!
