When we realised that Bukela is 7.5km down a bumpy road from the main gate, we wished we’d hired a 4x4 rental - lesson learnt!! We did have problems with our hot water supply, but the staff could not have been quicker or more responsive in trying to sort it out - so that’s not really anything negative. These things happen. We really couldn’t fault the place - everything about it was incredible

The staff, food and our ranger, Evans were, without exception, fantastic. Bukela is a beautiful place and the Amakhala Reserve is phenomenal - a vast expanse with spectacular scenery. Our room - one of the ‘tents’ was amazing and all the accommodation is very private. The staff take great care with all the guests and are ready and willing to sort out any question, problem or request immediately. Nothing seems to be too much trouble

We did not use the pools as we did not have time, I noticed the water looked a little bit cloudy.

Most of the lodges in Game Reserves are very high standard. Bukela Lodge did not disappoint. From welcoming us to the accomodation, staff, food and organisation of Safaris we felt we booked the right lodge. The staff was outstanding, so nice and very professional. Our house (number 1) had a nice little terrace with view of the water hole and we could see some antilopes very close. The best part of our stay were of course the game drives with our ranger Evans. He is so knowledgeable and passionate. Except for a leopard, we saw all animals we wanted, the whole experience was exceptional. If you cannot go to one of the big National Parks, I can definitely recommend Amakhala Game Reserve.

Staff were all great, accommodation was very cool and the experience overall amazing. The included game drives were the highlight of our stay - very fun driving round the lodge and our ranger was great company and very knowledgeable about all the wildlife, fauna, and life in the region. Would definitely go back again!

Nothing I didn't like.

We stayed in the luxury safari tent. It was fantastic. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent - breakfast, lunch, 5 course dinner. Game drives were amazing. Our driver (Wonga) was great - very knowledgeable and found all the animals. Game drives included drinks and snacks, with drinks on return. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend.

I loved it all. I can't think how my experience could be improved. I didn't want to leave. It was an amazing experience. We stayed for 3 nights. I wish I could've stayed longer.

We had a luxury tent - number 5. It was fantastic! A lovely walk along a boardwalk to the tent, which had everything you need, and more. Wonderful views. We saw impala right next to our tent, warthogs by the swimming pool, various antelopes, and buffaloes at the waterhole. Who doesn't like relaxing in a huge bathtub whilst enjoying the most amazing views? The food is really nice too. But the game drives are awesome. Our ranger (Munday) was exceptional. What a tracker! He would ask if there was anything we particularly wanted to try to see at the start of the drive, and he certainly delivered! He was so knowledgeable and treated all of the animals with respect and giving them space, whilst getting us as close as possible without causing them distress. We were lucky enough to see three cheetahs devouring a wildebeest, lions, jackals, elephants, giraffes, zebras, red hartebeests, impala, ostriches, oryx, pale chanting goshawk, Secretary bird, eland, waterbucks, hippo, buffaloes, yellow mongoose, scrub hares, kudu, springbok, duiper, orb spider, rhinos, warthogs - that's what I can remember quickly, I'm sure I've missed some. Every game drive was very different- do them all because we saw something different on each drive. The staff are amazing. They all work hard to make sure guests are happy. They all seem happy and always have time and enthusiasm to hear how your day has been.

Long waiting times during breakfast and lack of staff attention; missing that final touch to make a stay truly exceptional

The luxury tents are outstanding and best option to stay (we had the full experience as we stayed in the tent as well in the suite). Animals may be around and in / very close to the „camp“ side. The Safari experience with game drives were outstanding. Big thanks to our ranger Evence (best guy)! The bar guys were super nice and funny.

Everything was excellent. Our guide Abi was very knowledgeable and managed to find all the animals we wanted to see. Very well organised with more food than we could eat. Burkela lodge was very comfortable and lovely and peaceful. Would highly recommend

Toilet in our lodge wasn't working as it should and didn't flush. We didn't realise this until late on the 1st night as we went on a game drive and then had our evening meal. I resorted to filling the cistern manually, and then it could flush. This did cast a shadow on the overall view of the stay. Staff are super friendly, but service at meal times can vary a lot.

Game drives ticked all the boxes. All the staff are willing to help and are approachable. The lodge itself we stayed in was really nice, and the 4 poster bed was a real treat. The food in the restaurant was of a good standard.

Easy to get to from PLZ, amazing staff, beautiful property and cabins, every meal was A+, and the game drives were so fun. Can’t say enough good things. And it’s worth saying again — EVERY member of the staff we interacted with was top notch. Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, true pros.

A fabulous place to stay. Food was delicious, plentiful and freshly cooked. Game drives were well organised and our ranger Cairo was great and managed to find us most of the animals you would want to see.
