We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

South AfricaOur one-night stay at Elize Cottage was a delightful escape. Nestled in a picturesque Stilbaai, this cozy retreat exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome from the owners who ensured we felt at home. The cottage was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean, with comfortable furnishings and a well-equipped kitchen perfect for our needs. The location was ideal. Overall, Elize Cottage provided a perfect blend of comfort and hospitality. We look forward to returning for another stay.

South AfricaThe owner thinks its okay to display the Apartheid flag??? This was disgusting. This flag was the 1st thing I saw when walking into the property and the owner clearly has no qualms about having this flag on display, clearly visible to all guests. Acting like you don't know this is at all an issue in SA is just playing dumb. I've met so many racist whites in this country, and there is just this nonchalance about their racist worldview like they are convinced they are right, like it was the right thing to do taking all the land and herding everyone else into conveniently out of the way an impoverished places. And the complaining that never stops that that the system that no longer benefits only them is way worse than anything their darling authoritarian regime could have ever done. So clever and superior, yet so angry and small, and anyone calling you out for it is somehow overreacting, it makes me sick. I'd tell you to go abroad but people like this have already given us such a bad name because of these kind of actions. Grow up and have some self awareness that you live in South AFRICA. I don't want to share this country with those who do this and it depresses me that I do.
