Some drains around the property really smelled bad - one particularly close to our room. It's the small things that count - I mentioned that it was our 20th wedding anniversary - I didn't expect any special treatment, but if you really want to build your brand, even a little handwritten note or acknowledgement at reception would have been nice...

We had a great time and really enjoyed the location Great food. Peaceful surroundings. The fact that check out was only at 11.00 added to the relaxed feeling.

1. My room was upstairs and gave me some issues with accessibility. I did not make a fuss of it due to last minute booking but it would help it staff or App provided an option to check for preferences based on physical disability. But overall experience was excellent.

1. It was clean and comfortable. 2. Staffing excellent, helpful, and courteous. 3. The environment is pristine and detoxing and helps to just relax. 4. Breakfast was excellent, buffet offered a good variety.

It was not hot enough for the swimming pool :-)

We got a huge room from 3 persons, next to the swimming pool. We really liked it. Rooms were quiet and we had a really good rest in the very comfortable beds. We had dinner in the restaurant, food was good, but nothing spectacular. Same for breakfast. We were playing minigolf, darts, pool. Kids had a great time there.

Room service was slow and they forgot a few of the items. They also gave my husband an open beer. We needed to request that they bring a new one. The breakfast area is a bit cramped up and you need a better variety of food.

The fireplace in the room was nice. The shower was also nice and big.

My husband and I decided on some alone time. Road trip to your destination was fun, chatted laughed and listened to music. The staff was very professional, friendly and we felt instantly at home. The food portions could be smaller ( kidding)

It's the perfect place for a homey feeling holiday break. Dinnertime was a pleasant gathering of noise & and laughter, and yet the breaktaking views would calm any weary traveller. It's no wonder it's the oldest licensed hotel in South Africa...1779 and still going strong!

Bed was not comfortable to soft and the left side was higher that the right side. There was a wedding party which we were only told about when we checked in. So it was noise.

Although some of the rooms are new, the older rooms/family suites have pretty much stayed the same over the years, and yet the pricing has gone up quite a bit year on year. Maybe more activities for the kids, especially over the Christmas period.

I am a regular patron of Houw Hoek; we try to get there at least once every year. The rooms are clean and equipped with what we need; breakfast is always a pleasure, and dinner was good. We enjoyed the Spa treatment as well.
