The property is big and welcoming. Although we missed the outside room on our 1st night.

Host was non responsive, had to try get in touch numerous times and no answer was received until I called from another number. Dishwasher was broken. Contractors were sent to the property to measure for blinds whilst we were on holiday. Umbrella was broken, Telescope was broken. Cleaner was sent 3 hours before we were supposed to check out.

The one room is outside the property. It was not mentioned on bookings.com The room felt like a storeroom with a bed and bathroom. The roof is very low. We bumped our heads a few times. The dishwasher didn't work.

The property needs maintenance, especially the deck as the stairs feel unsafe. The game vehicle is expensive to rent for a day and poorly maintained. We had a flat tyre on a game drive and couldn't change the tyre as there was no jack in the vehicle.

The view is stunning and we appreciated the peace and quiet. Morning visits from the Nyala and the Warthog were the highlight of the day.

We had to pay a breakage deposit of R2500. Almost a month after our stay I still don't have the full deposit back. At first it took 3 weeks and a lot of complaining to get a payment back- but it was R500 short. I was promised it will be rectified but this never happened even after complaining with booking.com! We also bought bags of wood at R100, only to realise the same wood sell for R57 in Pretoria where we live. The house was clean and comfortable, but needs some attention. Roof was leaking. The outside braai is broken and cannot be used. So we had to braai in the fire pit. We also rented a game vehicle at R1300 per day. It was in a poor state. Almost no brakes and had a problem idling. So a very nice place but it is managed poorly! Wath out for that deposit!

The house isn't in the main Mabalingwe reserve, and there's an 8km dirt road to get to the property that isn't in great condition. Having a 4x4 would've been better. You also can't drive around in Cyferfontein in your own vehicle, so you need to rent one at an extra cost. The house itself is a little run down, and some of the facilities need fixing and updating. There's a hornbill that comes and knocks on the windows starting at 5 in the morning, and although super cute is very startling.

The view was incredible. The pool and the outdoor area are lovely.

The Whatsapp communication from the host regarding specific questions we had, caused a bit of frustration. The "visitor's guide" should be updated and include FAQs so that guests don't have to Whatsapp for basic information. There should be a clear map provided for guests using the vehicle - bearing in mind there are people who have no idea about the roads, expectations etc.

The views are lovely, as well as the decks. The main bedroom is spacious and comfortable. There is ample fridge space. The pool and ping pong table are a bonus when the weather is iffy. Evening visits from the Nyala family were lovely.

The people staying there before us checked out late so cleaners were still there when we arrived, but it wasn't an issue as we enjoyed some drinks on the patio while we waited. Although we had a good time we had small children with us (2 and 4 years old) and found the outside area to be quite the hazard - uneven surfaces, slanted steps, open fencing with big drops down to the ground, pool was also very slippery in the shallow end so we had to watch our children 24/7 for their safety. Not an issue if you are all adults, but worthwhile being careful. The property has everything you need but is looking a bit tired and could do with a "refresh".

The view is amazing! Very relaxing sitting outside and watching animals in the distance. We used the fire pit every night and enjoyed having braais. There was frequent loadshedding but wasnt a massive issue as there was an inverter installed which helped (although the oven and dishwasher wouldn't work during loadshedding). We had nyala and peacocks visit our unit in the early evenings which was nice (although, not so nice was finding a snake on the patio as we were leaving). We hired the game drive vehicle and did a self-guided drive around the reserve and Mabalingwe - saw amazing sightings (elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, warthog, various buck).

There were no waterpressure during loadshedding. The lodge is far from the restaurants.

Everything!! The place is in an URGENT NEED OF AN UPGRADE UPGRADE. Almost all the kitchen items were dirty. The pots and pans were old and scratched. The knives were blunt. The dishwasher was extremely dirty, mouldy, and broken. The bathroom mats looked like they belonged outside. The grill at the braai area was rusty. The microwave is extremely old. The living room couches were terribly dirty, and the cushions were worn out and flat. The owner’s personal belongings, like cool boxes, were scattered around inside the house. The tap at the kitchen counter had no running water. The shower mats were mouldy. The advertisement of the rooms on the website did not match what we got. The single beds were extremely hard, and the bedding was old. The pool cues had not tips. And I could go on and on!

We loved the open plan of the kitchen & dining room. The view and braai are was beautiful to sit and look into nature everyday!
