    Nothing.

The location was amazing and the view hard to stop looking at. The staff were so attentive but not oppressively so. The Battlefields tour is a must, the guide brought it all to life and was so knowledgeable. Really easy to leave the car at the museum and transfer up - the remoteness is what makes the stay special so don't be put off by the transfer.

Nothing bad with the property at all .. it's a lovely site to experience. The access road to the property is as advised in the information a challenge .. but it is being worked on .. like a lot of roads in the area a 4x4 off road vehicle would be beneficial and we were lucky to have one .. Rorkes Drift Lodge are great and offered to pick up and drop off from the Rorkes Drift museum site should you not have such a vehicle.

The property is in a fantastic location overlooking KZN .. the facility is being developed very nicely and the staff team are a real asset .. we were made to feel so welcome. We visited the battlefield sites 20+ years ago and it was a pleasure to visit again with our late teenage sons. I was so so impressed with our tour guide Thulani Khuzwayo who was arranged by Rorkes Drift Lodge .. Would thoroughly recommend ..

The access road is quite tough. You need a vehicle with good clearance. We were fine in a Toyota Fortuna. Our room didn't have a view, which was a shame.

Outstanding location and Jabby, the woman who was running the place is astounding. Her cooking is like that of a five star chef. We enjoyed our stay. It is a remote place. This wasn't an issue for us.

The hot water took a while to heat up in the icy morning, almost 10 mins!

The Executive Suite was really spacious and so cute! Loved the decor! It was also clean and neat and well-maintained! The staff were amazing - so helpful and friendly, always eager to assist and go the extra mile! Thank you Jabi, Samke Ntokozo and the gentleman driver! The meals were also made with love and attention 💜

Fantastic. I really enjoyed the food. Like homecooked meals. It was cleaner and better equipped than I thought. Also the person who made the meals made lovely food.

Be aware that the track up to the lodge is crazy. We managed it but wouldn’t do it again. It’s best described as a “top gear” experience best left to an off road vehicle. Do yourself a favour and avail yourself of the offer of a collection :) superb experience then !

Lodge was amazing as were staff and food. Loved everything about it x

Approach road is a challenge but not for us as we parked at the museum !! Suggest directions should be altered to the Shiyane Rorkes Drift centre as no signs for Museum seen from the road and we drove passed .

Splendid isolation. Peaceful but everything you could want . Super valley views . Friendly staff and tasty food . Set up a fascinating battlefield tour with local expert .

Neither of the TVs worked, but you don't go to a place like that to watch TV. On arrival at the Museum (the suggested rendezvous), there is no obvious sign in English to indicate where the museum is. It would not be difficult to fix that. Good as the walking tour was, the guide said that at that time of year, you can't negotiate the river, so we had to do a half walk. The brochure does not mention that.

The view from the room over the infinity pool was spectacular. The room was luxurious; in the lounge was the biggest TV we have ever seen, and the one in the bedroom was nearly as big. The bathroom was vast so no complaints on that front. You felt properly in Africa as the road to the lodge is impassable in an ordinary car. The walking tour was great.

The roads to Rorke's Drift are all gravel roads and are doable with a sedan, but better with a 4 x 4. For us, it was about 50 km on gravel from Ulundi and then about 30 km out to Dundee. It's obviously much slower than a tar road so leave enough time.

The setting was peaceful and beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the pool was fantastic. My wife went horseback riding while I took the battlefield tour with Thulani--both were excellent. Since we had a sedan, we parked at the Rorke's Drift Museum parking lot for the 2 nights we were there. The lot is safe and secure. The lodge provided a driver to take us up their 5 km jeep track to the lodge. The breakfast and suppers were excellent.

A bit of luxury at Rorkes Drift

It was a bit remote. The dirt road to Rorkes Drift is rough and slow to start with. Then the uphill track to the farmhouse is impossible in a standard car. Apparently it's only 5km but it still took 4Omins in the lodges pick up. There would be no fast exit in an emergency.

We stayed in the farmhouse in the suite rather than a s/c unit and found it to be absolutely luxurious. Full access to pool and dining area straight outside. Wood burner a nice touch. We were the only guests at the time and found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Meals were interesting, tasty and well cooked. We took the all day battlefield tour and for a small charge were supplied with a jeep and a driver which made the day much more enjoyable. Beautiful views from the house over lush countryside with horses, goats and monkeys roaming. Parking at the museum was secure and much better than expected.

I hadn’t realised I should have left my hire car in Rourke’s Drift Museum and got a lift from the lodge. The track in is 5km and too much for a small car - you need rugged 4 wd.

Although we had a 4WD vehicle the road in is a great challenge although it gets you to a wonderful setting.

Spectacular views with banks of hills to the horizon and the deep quiet of the African bush. The staff were very attentive and the breakfast really good. We had a delicious and generous dinner one night and self catered the other night. Kitchen adequate and best for preparing simple meals.
