How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Proximity to busy road and all night traffic.
We are absolutely stunned in relation to this score. You obviously never saw the beautiful views over the Knysna Heads and Lagoon from your room or the fact that you are close to all the amenities of the town. Sure, if you are a light sleeper this place is not for you. The guesthouse has no control over the design of Knysna. We suggest that you book a farm somewhere next time you come to Knysna as all the guesthouses in the area have the same situation.

Traffic noise if you're a light sleeper ... didn't bother me
This score is very disappointing. Knysna is designed the way it is, the guesthouse has no control over the towns design. You did not mention the fantastic views over the Knysna Heads and Lagoon or the close proximity to the town and Knysna Waterfront. You also did not mention our great dining and patio area which you and your family took full advantage of last night and this morning. The weather was great, the views were great, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and expressed that they where very happy in our beautiful guesthouse so we have no idea why the low score.

We had an overall terrible experience. The managers/owners were very rude, and had no patience even with well behaved children traveling with our group. This is NOT a family friendly property. Our group of PAYING, well educated adults and leaders in our community were treated like naughty children when we used the braai facilities and lounge. The location next to the N2 is very noisy with loads of trucks driving past through out the night. The parking is a nightmare.
Good day, As previously mentioned to the other part of your group, there were other guests staying at the guesthouse and unfortunately your group invited a number of their own visitors with noisy children which were running up and down screaming. Understandably, the other paying guests complained. As far as well behaved goes, I personally saw a child pulling and stretching on the blinds on the balcony where all mothers seemed to be oblivious. We like to see our guests having fun however not at the expense of all the other guests. This is why our terms and conditions state clearly not to bring additional people on to the premises without permission and to please have consideration for other guests. Since you are so well educated maybe you should have understood what you read and signed up to. All the terms and conditions are also on the wall of all units. We find it very disingenuous to mark us down when you have been called out for blatantly disregarding the terms and conditions which were signed and agreed to on arrival. All educated people should be able to understand that. Your personal visitors then took the paying guests parking and blocked the driveway for which another group complained. Education has nothing to do with behavior, we assume you all know how to read but obviously did not understand the terms and conditions, particularly making a huge noise after 10.00 pm for 2 nights in a row. Your visitors were not invited to park on the property, unfortunately they did and caused problems for everyone as paying guests had to park on the street.. We like considerate guests, if you cannot be considerate then please stay elsewhere where no-one minds inconsiderate attitudes. Unfortunately Booking.com does not allow us to rate guests, if we could you wouldn't shape up so well. To future guests reading this review, we try our utmost to ensure that our guests have a great experience. We want everyone to have a great time. Unfortunately once in a while we do get inconsiderate guests and, when get called out, get vindictive regarding their scores. :)))))

Hosts were unnecessarily uptight complaining that we were noisy at 8pm at night.
Good day, There were other guests staying at the guesthouse and unfortunately your group invited a number of their own personal guests with noisy children which were running up and down screaming. Understandably, the other paying guests complained. We like to see our guests having fun however not at the expense of all the other guests. This is why our terms and conditions state clearly not to bring additional people on to the premises without permission and to please have consideration for other guests. After having 2 groups complaining about your group, I am not surprised if we came off a little uptight. To be fair, for nights in a row your group were making a huge noise after 10.00 pm. Booking.com is not clear that we need to reserve dinner and breakfast upfront. After a long drive with a baby, all we wanted was having supper at the restaurant but learned we had to prebook.
Good evening, thank you for your review. So sorry that we didn't have a hot meal available for you. Most of our guests prefer to eat out so after trying out a restaurant with very few guests we only now do dinner when pre-booked. I shall get on to booking.com about this. Obviously we are delighted to do breakfast for guests when ordered on check in.
