How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOne of the most famous places to stay in Livingstone. Everything is well organized, the staff is very friendly and helpful. However, the facilities are quite simple, also there were a lot of mosquitoes in the room, but the mosquito net helps.
Thank you very much for your lovely review. You are correct in saying our facilities are simple. We refer to our product as being clean, basic and affordable, but we do try to offer good value with free pancakes, free tea and coffee, $1 transfers to the Falls, free WiFi, free breakfasts and affordable prices in our bar, pizza cafe and day salon. Thank you for your comment about the mosquitoes. This is not a Fawlty Towers issue, but a Livingstone issue. Unfortunately for us, every time a guest comments on this, people assume it is something we are responsible for and can control but it actually has to be controlled by the local authorities. We do our best to manage our own facilities with mosquito nets, room spray and ensuring we don't have stagnant water lying around our property, but to be honest, it's a pointless exercise unless it is managed from beyond our walls. Thanks for staying with us. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. With best wishes, Elissa

limited choice of soft drinks
David, thank you so much for your lovely review. I am sorry, you found our choice of soft drinks limited, We tend to only stock the favourites ie: coke, fanta and sprite, mainly because the others don't sell and then we find ourselves with expiring stock. Thanks for choosing Fawltys. With best wishes, Elissa

Verified reviewI booked this stay for a friend. The location is good and convenient for exploring Livingstone, and the pool area offers a pleasant place to relax.
The overall experience was passable but could be improved with more attention to detail in cleanliness and comfort. A little extra effort in guest service and room upkeep would make a big difference.
Thank you for your review and advice about being much better with a few improvements. To be honest, we never stop improving. 2025: We have just opened 4 new luxury rooms after demolishing 4 old rooms. 2024: We built a lovely fire pit seating area, our brand new self-catering kitchen and our new lock up car park at the back of the lodge (which entailed demolishing and building a new workshop and staff kitchen to make room for guest's cars). We also launched our gift shop, our cruises and our game drives, 2023 We launched our very succesful pizza oven which we can proudly say serve the best pizzas in town. 2022 We launched 6 new, garden twin rooms. 2020-2021 - We revamped our bar and reception. Those are the noticeable changes, but lots of things are done regularly, like refeshing paint work, replacing mattresses, updating linen, replacing all curtains, etc etc etc. We certainly don't rest on our laurels. Some of our rooms are older, and will eventually either be replaced or remodelled. However, because of the way guests choose to book nowadays, we have additional third party commissions etc and so, budget limits how quickly things can get done. We do however, have a variety of accommodation available and have smarter, newer, larger, more modern rooms available for those with a little more to spend. We try to offer good value for the price, with simple, basic, affordable accommodation. Thank you for booking with us. We hope you will see more improvements in the future.

There was no hot water
Thank you so much for your review. Although you haven't given us an overall high score, we see you have rated 4 of the 6 categories with a 10 out of 10, which indicates to us that you generally, enjoyed your time with us. Thank you! Fawlty Towers was opened is 1996 as a backpackers and we have subsequently evolved over the years to more of a guest house, constantly building, upgrading and refreshing ourselves. We do still have a number of older rooms which are being upgraded as and when budget allows us to do so. (We have just opened another 4 new rooms this July.) I am sorry to hear you had no hot water. There is no reason why you should have had no hot water for the full duration of your stay. Sometimes, things happen but if a guest brings it to our attention, we attempt to resolve it as fast as possible. It's disappointing when we hear that a guest endured a stay of several days in discomfort and never said anything. We, who are always doing our best, and want our guests to enjoy their time with us, are very grateful of constructive criticism so that we can resolve things if we can. Thanks again for your review and for choosing to stay at Fawlty Towers. With best wishes, Elissa

Verified reviewA hidden gem! At least for us. From the street, it doesn't look like much. But once you step inside the gate, the property is wonderful! Truly a vibrant and comfortable place to stay. The staff were a joy to interact with and were exceedingly helpful and cheerful for the entirety of our stay. Even though we didn't buy any, the "guns for sale" sign was a BIG plus in my book!
The load shedding meant that we lost power on our last day, as we were packing up to checkout. Not really something the hotel can control though and to their credit, they warned us in advance about this possibility.
Thank you Christopher, for such lovely feedback. We are so chuffed you enjoyed your stay with us. With best wishes, Elissa

Verified reviewFawlty Towers has the best staff ever. Mike at the bar will entertain you all day, all night. Miriam, the receptionist is very kind and helpful with everything. And they have the best rhino walking tour ever - you can't miss that. Worth every penny. We also loved their pizza and the pool is great for the afternoon chillout.
What a lovely review, Branislav! We are so chuffed you enjoyed your time with us, and besides our accommodation, also enjoyed our rhino walks and pizza and downtime by our pool.

Verified reviewVery central location, walkable to most things of interest in Livingstone (shops right across the street, museum just 5-10 walk up the street, and out of town transport just beyond that). Courtyard setting cuts out most of the traffic noise even though right next to busy street.
Nothing really to complain about. Power was intermittent, but that's not the property's fault.
Thank you Dana. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us.

The only two very small criticisms would be get better coffee and you do get a lot of noise early hours from outside the property (something you can’t control) it didnt bother me I slept regardless but some of the group did struggle (just take ear plugs incase) x
Tessa, thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

Verified reviewThe location is very convenient and easy to go around with a supermarket and restaurants. The small but nice cafeteria inside the lodge serves good quality food. The WiFi worked most of the time, and enjoyed my time relaxing in the garden.
The rates for the airport shuttle and daily activities were overpriced in most cases.i guess it would be fine if you want to save a bit of time or energy to call for a taxi yourself. Also, the room can be very cold during the night, and the AC didn't come with the heating option. Personally, the bed was not so comfy.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. I am sorry you thought activities and airport shuttle were overpriced. We charge $10 for an airport pick up which is the same price as a taxi. We charge that per booking rather than per person. Activity prices are the rates provided to us by the operators, we do not mark up the rates. We run our own cruises and game drives which are better priced than most of the other operators. Sure you might find a substandard tour run by an operator at a cheaper price, who does not have appropriate equipment, safety standards and insurance, but we use experienced operators with the necessary protocols in place.
