Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Courtney Lodge is in a quiet location, a short distance from the centre of Victoria Falls. The buildings and garden are very attractive in a relaxed colonial style. The staff were welcoming, friendly and professional, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. Highly recommended.

South AfricaWe absolutely loved everything about the Courtney Lodge. From our friendly driver fetching us from the airport, to our spacious, cool, well appointed room which had huge white, fluffy bath towels and very comfortable beds, to the delicious breakfasts and beautiful pool and gardens. A special mention to the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They arranged all our activities, transfers and packed breakfasts. There was someone there to meet and greet us when we arrived back at the hotel, no matter the time and they even arranged a pizza delivery for my son. What a wonderful stay!

United KingdomNothing. Nothing at all.
Clive, the owner of the Lodge and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. As soon as we entered the ground off the Lodge, we could feel an amazing sense of serenity and peace. We thought the main building is a very well kept colonial style structure that must have been 100+ years old. We were surprised to hear from Clive that he and his partner built it and it was open only two years or so ago. Really tastefully done. I'm no expert but if someone told me it won some kind of architectural prize, I would not be amazed in the least. Extremely good value for money. Cannot recommend this property high enough.

Clive the owner gave us many good tips and ideas of activities to do. The food was delicious, we would recommend having a dinner at the lodge.

United StatesI can’t think of anything negative.
My traveling companions, who have stayed at other hotels in Vic Falls, all agreed the Courtney was the best value and nicest lodge in Vic Falls. The Vic Falls Hotel has the history and a great view, but I peaked into a room there and I’m happy we stayed at the Courtney. Clive, the owner, is very hospitable and interesting to chat with. There are only ten rooms situated in three villas, and they were large and the beds were very comfortable. I especially loved the gardens and the magnificent Msasa and mahogany trees. They had very good security and I felt safe.

South AfricaThe staff were helpful and friendly. The location was great - we were able to walk to the town centre. The recommendations for restaurants were also great. We greatly appreciated the help with transfers to and from the airport, the Helicopter Flight and the Sunset Cruise . The children enjoyed the garden and the pool.

I’m not fond of hotel stays. I’m looking for an accommodation experience. This is exactly what my wife and I received from Courtney Lodge. The room was great and the whole Colonial theme, gardens, bar, breakfast and atmosphere were special. Now Clive Wood (owner) and his staff were superb. We received personal service from all the staff. We quickly learned the first names of each team member and they became our friends. Because the lodge is pretty small we interacted with most of the other guests. Most were international.

United KingdomThis is already being worked on - shower effectiveness. The noise of helicopters is an issue across all of Victoria Falls area and not the responsibility of any individual premises.
This is a lodge vs a hotel - small, intimate and all the better for it. It's situated in a beautiful garden with stunning mature trees. Staff are very helpful and courteous. Room very comfortable and well equipped. Clive and Leslie (owners) are present on site and are attentive, knowledgeable and friendly with a clear and ethical approach. No pressure - no bling. Just great. It's safe to walk during daylight into the town - but at night not recommended owing to roaming elephant and buffalo.

Starting with Clive and Leslie (owners), and through each and every staff member, we received the warmest and most attentive hospitality possible. The property itself is very clean and organized with every minor detail being considered. Breakfast was outstanding and we were served a beautiful dinner the night we came back late from an all day safari. Thanks so much for this memorable experience!

TanzaniaIt was some distance to the Falls. It is better to take a taxi, although the area is generally said to be safe to walk around. The breakfast time was too short, just one hour.
The clientele - mostly dignified couples. Accommodating and friendly staff. The bed was comfortable.

BelgiumLovely place to stay when visiting the falls from Zimbabwe/Zambia side and going on safari in the nearby national parks. We were very happy to stay for a full week, including a Chobe (Botswana) day tour, much to do in the area. The room was lovely, and the owners Clive/Leslie were super helpful, like the rest of the staff. Highly recommend the place, you can reach the falls and the center walking, but it is still a calm cozy place with a beautiful garden. Very good breakfast too.

United StatesWhat an absolutely incredible experience. From the moment we touched down in Victoria Falls, we were enveloped in the amazing hospitality of Courtney Lodge, its incredible owner Clive and his wonderful team. From being received at the airport with the warmest of welcomes, we were brought to the incredible property in the heart of Victoria Falls village. The property is an amazing reflection of the owners (Clive and his partner Leslie), and their fascinating lives. Clive is an exceptionally knowledgeable host, and can recommend all kind of incredible and unique experiences and excursions. With a background in construction and hospitality, they have infused Courtney Lodge with the kinds of personal touch, care and attention that make the difference between a good experience and an absolutely exceptional one. As an example, I ordered a Margarita at the bar and although the bartender did not have triple sec/cointreau and had never made one before, the next night he offered us margaritas as our cocktail of choice. So earlier that day, he acquired the ingredients and learned how to make it… and if it wasn’t just the most perfect example… and the kindness and consideration behind the gesture made it that much more special. And that’s just one example of the hundreds of little thoughtful gestures we experienced during what was nothing short of a magical stay. Besides the exceptional hospitality (delicious home cooked breakfast aside), Courtney lodge is so tastefully decorated, with gorgeous lush tropical gardens, and is decorated to an beautiful standard, while giving you the feeling of being at a family home instead of just another generic hotel. This is hospitality at its absolute finest. I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Thank you to our hosts, Taku and the rest of the amazing staff. We will return for sure!
