How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified review1. Promptness from the booking stage and throughout the stay. 2. Upon arrival into my room, I knew I was at home because my bed was crowned with a picture of my puppies (African wild dog pack). 3. Staff and owner were both very friendly and very helpful. 5. The room felt as if I was in a safari park and yet I was in a city, giving me age relaxed feeling of holiday while at work. 6. The garden was amazing, with big trees and greenery, giving a nice view during the meals, leisure reading or catching up with work emails. 7. It was safe and no vehicles are allowed to enter the courtyard allowing guests to roam around freely within the court.
Nothing really.

Verified reviewAbsolutely wonderful stay, a heaven of peace and quiet in Victoria Falls. We were welcomed very warmly, and got all the help we needed with booking tours or accommodating a last minute dinner request. The garden is wonderful, we only wished we had more time to stay to enjoy it!

Verified reviewCourtney Lodge is in a quiet location, a short distance from the centre of Victoria Falls. The buildings and garden are very attractive in a relaxed colonial style. The staff were welcoming, friendly and professional, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. Highly recommended.

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved everything about the Courtney Lodge. From our friendly driver fetching us from the airport, to our spacious, cool, well appointed room which had huge white, fluffy bath towels and very comfortable beds, to the delicious breakfasts and beautiful pool and gardens. A special mention to the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They arranged all our activities, transfers and packed breakfasts. There was someone there to meet and greet us when we arrived back at the hotel, no matter the time and they even arranged a pizza delivery for my son. What a wonderful stay!

Verified reviewClive, the owner of the Lodge and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. As soon as we entered the ground off the Lodge, we could feel an amazing sense of serenity and peace. We thought the main building is a very well kept colonial style structure that must have been 100+ years old. We were surprised to hear from Clive that he and his partner built it and it was open only two years or so ago. Really tastefully done. I'm no expert but if someone told me it won some kind of architectural prize, I would not be amazed in the least. Extremely good value for money. Cannot recommend this property high enough.
Nothing. Nothing at all.

Verified reviewCourtney lodge was lovely and relaxing. A very comfortable stay with everything we needed. The staff were so helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Clive the owner gave us many good tips and ideas of activities to do. The food was delicious, we would recommend having a dinner at the lodge.
Can’t think of anything.

Verified reviewMy traveling companions, who have stayed at other hotels in Vic Falls, all agreed the Courtney was the best value and nicest lodge in Vic Falls. The Vic Falls Hotel has the history and a great view, but I peaked into a room there and I’m happy we stayed at the Courtney. Clive, the owner, is very hospitable and interesting to chat with. There are only ten rooms situated in three villas, and they were large and the beds were very comfortable. I especially loved the gardens and the magnificent Msasa and mahogany trees. They had very good security and I felt safe.
I can’t think of anything negative.

Verified reviewThe staff were helpful and friendly. The location was great - we were able to walk to the town centre. The recommendations for restaurants were also great. We greatly appreciated the help with transfers to and from the airport, the Helicopter Flight and the Sunset Cruise . The children enjoyed the garden and the pool.

Verified reviewI’m not fond of hotel stays. I’m looking for an accommodation experience. This is exactly what my wife and I received from Courtney Lodge. The room was great and the whole Colonial theme, gardens, bar, breakfast and atmosphere were special. Now Clive Wood (owner) and his staff were superb. We received personal service from all the staff. We quickly learned the first names of each team member and they became our friends. Because the lodge is pretty small we interacted with most of the other guests. Most were international.

Verified reviewLocation was excellent, just far enough out of town to be quiet though close enough to walk in. Beautiful gardens and staff who go the extra mile all the time.
Shower was a little temperamental. Very hot or cold. Water flow could be better. Minor details really.
