Hakone
Comfortable Accommodations: Onsen Guest House Tsutaya in Hakone offers comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and mountain views. Only some rooms include a balcony, tatami floors, and free toiletries. Possibly the best hostel I have ever stayed - though that word doesn’t do it justice! Onsen and all common spaces were beautiful, the kitchen was the best appointed I’ve ever seen with everything from cooking sake to coffee beans and grinders, staff were helpful. It’s a bit out of the way of things but that makes for a really peaceful atmosphere.

All rooms have a private toilet and washbasin, while bathroom facilities are shared. Green tea sets with snacks are provided. It was a superb experience, exceeding any of our expectations. The room offered a sight into a traditional Japanese room, and it was equipped with kimono and other amenities to further make this experience more memorable. I would really recommend the dinner, with a lot of tasty, traditional Japanese dishes. The onsen was another strong point, perfect for taking a few relaxing hours amidst the crazy amount of walks of the last days. Also, the quality of service is something that stood out.

For breakfast, we opted for the traditional Japanese restaurant and everything was perfect, form the food to the ambience and the location.

Set 12 km from Hakone-Yumoto Station, Centurion Hakone Bettei offers 4-star accommodation in Hakone and has an open-air bath. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The ryokan offers a hot spring bath and full-day security. The hospitality and service were incredible. We had a personal greeting when we first entered the property and every time thereafter, we were greeted with our slippers (you can't wear your street shoes anywhere on the property). The meals were incredible (breakfast & dinner included in our booking) and the food service was thoughtful and food presentation was beautifully done. We advised beforehand what meals we preferred (Western-style or Japanese-style breakfast and meals cooked/raw) and each time, they had our food perfectly presented. This was a great change from the rest of our trip which was very urban (Tokyo, Kamakura and Kyoto). We used shuttle service to pick/drop us off from nearby bus stop which we had pre-reserved; this was a plus because the hotel is located up a hill. Also, they were kind to take us to nearby attractions since it was pouring rain (not sure if this is always done; but, we appreciated this!). Staff always greeted with a smile. Private and room onsens were fantastic. We stayed in a Premium room and it was large and nicely decorated. Enjoyed the landscaped view from our window. Felt very relaxed in such a beautiful country setting.

Great place to stay ! You need the car to get there, but it is a lovely place. The room was big, confortfull, very clean with tatami big corner. the hot spring (Onsen) is amazing. Silence everywhere. Machines for food, drinks and ice cream. Very good place to visit Hakone and Lake Ashi.
This was close to the end of our two and half week Japan trip, and we had already been to many hotels and accommodations: If you are looking for ascetic Japanese inn, this is for you. You won't get much for basic fare, which for our trip was twice or thrice the normal price for a night, but if you are happy with a public bath, yukata and tatami mat with a futon on it, you are in for good times (we weren't).
It’s a little tired but authentic. Love the experience of traditional Ryokan. It’s so special when the staffs come and prepare a spread of dinner table in your tatami room and then after the dinner they turn the room into a bed room by bringing out Futon. The quality of Onsen water is fantastic. The staffs are very friendly and welcoming.
Staying in a traditional ryokan was a treat. We really enjoyed the rooms, with tatami mats and windows overlooking beautiful greenery. The futons were really comfortable and our room had its own onsen, which was fabulous. The evening meals were extraordinary. Beautifully presented, with numerous delicious dishes. If anything there was too much food. The breakfast too was very lavish.
The staff has been very welcoming and attended to all our needs. The private onsen is worth a visit and the privacy was much appreciated. Futons were some of the best ones we've experienced on our trip. Room size was more than adequate and the interior (tatamis, bathroom, seating arrangement) on point. The provided Yukatas were decent. The hotel's location is a good base to explore Mt Fuji, the botanical gardens (pref. late spring), local hikes and the temple close by (look for the buddha statues).
We had such a fantastic experience during our stay at Ajisai and loved walking around in the supplied Yukatas! We really enjoyed the private onsen which we definitely made use of with our family, and the futon bed was extremely comfortable. Just note that it is a fair walk (especially if you have luggage), so best to take a taxi from Gora Station to get to the Ryokan.
Beautiful Japanese ryokan in a magical setting. The multi-course kaseiki dinner and traditional breakfast were superb, with all the dishes impeccably presented and absolutely delicious. Our lovely hostess, Kyoko, graciously served us and patiently explained every dish using goggle translate. The onsens had great district views and we emerged from the hot spring water feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. We would love to come back here again!
Amazing facilities. You get to experience a lot as you get complementary yukatas and access to an amazing onsen. The rooms are very well furnished and the tatami mats and futons are a must experience
The traditional Ryokan was what we searched for and we were happy to receive the full experience with yukata's and futons. We had a personal toilet for the room (not in the room itself but we expected a shared one) And we were lucky with the onsens as we could use them both times by ourselves. The food was delicious and a good introduction to traditional Japanese food
A very traditional Japanese inn (ryokan). The outdoor hot spring (onsen) is fabulous. The food quality in the restaurant is very high at this price range. The staff is very friendly and they can speak English well.
