A nice vibrant hotel. There was an interesting mix of students that lived in part of the hotel long term and hotel guests. The table tennis tables were a nice addition. We were given a nice room that had a good view!

Groningen is a beautiful city , I would prefer it to Amsterdam . It is a nice size, there's loads to see and do. The Groninger Museum always has terrific exhibitions and the building itself is amazing. The Ship Museum is excellent also . There is a lovely ambience with many cosy cafes and bars and great eateries such as the Drei Gezusters. We had great takeaway food at the Vis Markt , the Kibbeling is very tasty and the portions everywhere are generous.
As it is a University city , there is a lively student atmosphere,
We walked everywhere as everything is accessible. It is a wonderful spot for a city break.

We liked this time a lot because of the boat tour through the town and our visit to Groninger museum with the Rolling Stones exhibition. We had diner at the Branderij and at Eetcafe de Slingerij. Both good quality for a fine price and kind staff.

Groningen is a lovely univeristy town easily reached by train. Taking a walk through the center to visit the almshouses (there is a good guidebook for that) and their gardens was a pleasant way to get to know the city. A big plus is that there is no mass tourism as in Amsterdam, mostly day trippers from the area or just across the river from Germany.

I would definitely recommend Groningen as a place to visit.
I would definitely recommend Groningen as a place to visit. It is a little gem. It’s easily reached from Schipol airport by a direct train that takes just over 2 hours.
I only discovered it as I found Dutch family that live here. Definitely recommend as a change from Amsterdam. The town has plenty of shops and restaurants, museums and a canal. Everything is accessible by foot or local buses. Just be aware of the cyclists.

Groningen is a very lovely smaller town with a nice old town surrounded by water canals. In the city I spent most of my time at a conference at the university, whose campus itself is very interesting and I had the opportunity to see the particle accelerator there as part of the excursion - certainly very interesting for those interested in (bio)physics and (radio)medicine. In my free time I walked through the old town and around the canals, which was very nice and romantic. The same could be said of the walking path from the city to the university area, which led through beautiful, almost wild countryside along horse paddocks, one arm of the river, among meadows, etc. The town also offers great gourmet experiences. I was only able to spend a few days in the city, so unfortunately I didn't have a chance to explore the surrounding area.
The hotel is superbly located in the centre of town right on the Grote Markt and next to the Martini Toren and provides great access to shops, restaurants and attractions. The facilities are of a very high standard. The rooms are spacious with beautiful lighting, have a coffee / tea station with a Nespresso machine (with supplies), excellent shower and a novel glass wardrobe, and the Wi-Fi works seamlessly at decent speed. Breakfast is a feast. The Willem Albert Cafe serves excellent coffee, and food. The staff are great.
I really enjoyed my stay. The room was clean, the shower worked well and housekeeping cleaned the room on every day of the stay. The girl that helped me check in was very nice and was helpful with my special request for the check out. There were bus stations only a few minutes away from the location, as well as a supermarket that was open till 22. The city center was also at a convenient walking distance from the hotel. The area felt safe and was very quiet as well.
we always choose to stay at a Van Der Valk Hotel whenever we visit the Netherlands for the Dutch TT round of the Moto GP.
so far we have stayed at Van Der Valk hotels in; Assen-Zwolle-Dwingeloo and now Groningen.
The standard of the hotels are just what we like and why we choose to stay at these hotels, the Restaurants-bars are if a good standard and the service from arrival to departure is nothing but great.
The NH Groningen hotel is a fine example of a well run NH hotel. The hotel was clean, the bedroom spacious and comfortable and the staff most pleasant and helpful. The breakfast, included in the room rate, was excellent and left nothing to be desired. Car parking at the back of the hotel was convenient and the city center an easy 10 minutes walk away.
Wow! This hotel was incredible!
Surpassed my expectations by far. It's much more beautiful and cozy in real life.
The hotel was so beautiful and the staff so helpful.
In the very centre of the city. Super easy to get groceries and anything you need within a very shoet distance.
The breakfast had lot of choices and variety. It's really well located for visiting the city. At 5-10 min distance to all main locations in Groningen.
Even if the hotel does not have parking there is a parking at 5min walk from the hotel.
Very spacious and modern room with a comfortable bed. Even the bathroom had quite of space as well. The hotel is located within the city center (quite close to the university library) so everything was in walking distance.
Good solid hotel, perfect for students who want to be in the middle of the action. The courtyard was buzzing every night with partygoers. We loved being in the middle of the action, but not everyone would.
Great room, in beautiful location in centre of Groningen. Well organised, very friendly staff and a fantastic breakfast and service! Already the third time i stay in your hotel and will continue to do so!
We got a great room with lots of space and a modern bathroom. Also the location is absolute top, there is nothing better located to enjoy groningen city centre for this rate than the doelen.
I did not try breakfast. The location is in the mere centre of the city, very convenient to do paper work/administration in Groningen University, less than one hundred meters away.
A Nice hotel in a Nice place, walking distance to the centre of Groningen. The room was nice with lots of attention for detail. Breakfast was good. Good coffee! Staff friendly.
The friendly and helpful staff and the great suggestions received to enjoy our stay. Hotel nicely located near city center and major locations, bars and restaurants.
