From the moment we walked Into Maften Hall we were greeted by a wonderful gentleman Desmond, who offered to help with our bags and we received our welcome drink.
The property is stunning, and the staff are exceptional!
We were very lucky to be offered a complimentary upgrade so thank you so much for this Claire!
The property itself is beautiful and the only thing we didn't like is that we didn't have another night! The staff couldn't do enough and as we were celebrating they made our stay here just perfect.
We will be back! Thank you again.

The whole package! Carolyn and her husband exceptional hosts, quiet location with beautiful views, breakfasts perfect. We loved the fresh berries, muesli, mixed seeds, yoghurt - plus a full English breakfast. The bed was super comfy and room spotless. Location couldn't be better. Definitely recommend and would stay there again.

Really peaceful and private. A lovely location - the cabin was very Impressive. Took the dogs for a short break... my oldest dog has mobility issues and the cabin was perfect for accessibility for her.

The welcome at Matfen was lovely, being seated in the great hall while your car is parked by concierge and bags taken to the room is a great touch. Our room was spacious enough and we had a lovely little balcony with views to Matfen village which is 2 minutes away. The rooms were spotlessly clean and great amenities including fresh milk, the decor of our room is a little tired but it didn't detract from our stay. I also had a fantastic facial in the spa and we used the pool, sauna and steam room which were very good. Then to Emerald restaurant which was incredible such a wonderful surrounding to enjoy delicious food and a great bottle of South African Pinotage. We definitely recommend a stay here and we loved it so much we have already booked again to stay in December with our parents. See you again in a couple of months. Possibly our new favourite getaway hotel.

Sits in a very scenic location near the village of Matfen but also near Newcastle and Hexham. A very impressive looking hotel and inside did not disappoint. There has a lot of character. Food was good and staff excellent. Perfect hotel to have a relaxing break and plenty around if you want to see things eg Hadrians Wall or Corrbridge. It also has a lovely spar but best to book treatments in advance. We will definitely be going back.
We stayed just after a major refurbishment, so the impressive establishment was looking splendid (especially the main hall), and was quiet with few guests. Our room (70) was good (with an excellent bathroom) though quite small, and storage space for clothes etc (we were there for 4 nights) was only adequate The hotel staff were all smartly dressed in uniforms, cheerful, helpful and really pleasant, though many of them had only recently started there. Nothing was too much trouble for them - and they particularly made our stay memorable.
Booked our stay at Matfen Hall for my wife's birthday and we had an amazing time. All of the staff made us feel welcome and relaxed from the moment we entered the reception. I could not fault the service provided by the whole team and we both feel it was the best customer service we have ever received. Our meal in the Cloisters Restaurant was fabulous and the recent refurbishment of Matfen Hall has taken this beautiful old building to the next level in our opinion.
Our greeting by Desmond who went out of his way to be welcoming was a huge improvement to our previous visit some years ago.. our room 33 was a delight, diner was excellent and a freshly cooked breakfast ( Matfen ) was simply the best.!! how could a pre-cooked buffet breakfast ever be as good ??? was tempted by the EggyBread too .. will certainly stay here again in preference to The Angel in Corbridge or Slaley Hall . Well done to the Matfen Team
Grand hall and entrance and overall new addition orangery and restaurant aesthetic was stunning and really gets you excited for a wonderful hotel… that’s where the wow starts and finishes really! Shame the grounds and hotel building / renovations have potentials to be outstanding and a world class place but it’s got zero to off in any other way.
First time returning since the huge refurbishment and wow, the hotel is another level, amazing! Every single thing is high quality and it’s truly a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing place to stay. We definitely plan to make Matfen a regular thing, absolutely loved it.
We loved this hotel. It's spotless, beautiful, elegant and relaxing. The staff were all friendly and polite. The service exceptional.
Our room was beautiful and peaceful. The spa brilliant. The sauna good and hot.
Altogether a wonderful few days away.
We were speachless. Beautiful hotel, great facilities, the staff was amazing, the food was the best we ever had, and the room was luxurious. We will definitely come back!
The bed was very comfy & the room was a nice size not too small.
Bathroom lovely & clean
There seemed to be new carpets throughout the hotel except in the bedroom.
Food was fantastic. Hotel was lovely although rooms were a little dated.
Some of the staff were a little bit inexperienced.
Overall great place to stay.
