Lovely location and exceptional hostelery as the name suggests.
Having driven past the location many times since 1973, I was happy to finally visit the castle.
The food was delicious and the service to a high standard.

The breakfast was beautifully laid out with an excellent choice of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and cheese in addition to cooked options.
The en-suite was beautiful with plenty of space and a good shower.
All staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant; they couldn't do enough for you.
A very quiet location and the bed was extremely comfortable.
We had a meal from the Sunday menu which was very varied and served in the restaurant.

Absolutely beautiful property, the apartments were just perfect for our big family group for a local wedding. There is a lovely outside space for everyone to gather, and the hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming! Each apartment had a selection of breakfast items which was a lovely touch. We booked this alongside the carriage house for part of a big family group for a local wedding and it was just perfect - it meant everyone could stay together in one site. The rooms were lovely and there was a little breakfast pack provided. The owners were incredibly friendly too!

We could only manage 2 nights as this was the 1st time the children had been away with us without their parents. There is so much to see and do in the area. However, the short duration is an excuse to return.
Close to A1M though a bit farther out of York than we wanted but a straightforward 20m drive there almost direct to a car park. Could have used convenient park and ride. Lovely welcome by owners. Super interesting history, people and grounds. Lovely traditional house, room and breakfast. Hosts offered tea/coffee & cake when we arrived and when we came in the next night at 'no added charge'. It's also nice & close to Tadcaster which is great for John Smith fans!!
The problem for us was that our visit “collided” with an Annual Tennis function the hotel was hosting.
The breakfast was crazy time with staff (2) rushed off their feet and clearly lacking “Service” pleasantries which, given the Price we paid was surprising. The two rooms we booked were adequate - ours was airy but the single occupancy was stuffy and hot (facing directly on to the Tennis function with all its attendant noise and “disruption”.
A lovely two day stay at the Old Presbytery Guest House . Christine and Chris were wonderful hosts and helped to make our short break in Barkston Ash really enjoyable. The cooked breakfasts were superb , probably the best we’ve had in a B&B or Hotel .
We’d thoroughly recommend a stay at The Old Presbytery Guest House .
I left my watch charger in my room. I rang to see if it had been found. I had a phone call back to say it had been found and it was posted to me. Many hotels wouldn't have done this. Because it's a wedding venue you have all those advantages such as beautiful grounds, woodland walk, outside seating and lighting.
The Jackdaw owners are amazingly friendly and helpful. There were ample food supplies left ready for us which was an unexpected bonus. Great place to go if you have small kids. Tadcaster is closed on a Monday and most of Tuesday as well so expect to have to travel out of town if dinning out.
Beautiful grounds, friendly owners, nice breakfast.
Secure gate with easy parking.
Good value and much more homely than the usual travel-hotels nearby. We stayed in family room with our own travel cot.
Cosy and comfy accommodation. A great welcome and enough breakfast for double the number of people! Will definitely use the Jackdaw next time I visit family in Tadcaster
The hotel has beautiful grounds and has made clever use of the original building.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Food and wine selections were excellent
It used to be a castle so there are aspects of the property that the current hotel has not negatively influenced and is still interesting such as the graveyard.
