Unfortunate with the weather, rained 90% in 8 days, however the whitewashed walls and decor of the villa together with mountainous views kept spirits high. Slightly misleading with the photos is that you are unable to view the pool from the accommodation- look at the villa as an annexe (substantial at that) with the main house in between pool and annexe. The owners were away whilst we were there and weather bad so beautiful infinity / jacuzzi pool never used, however I get the impression this area would possibly not be accessible if the owners were present or at worse case -shared - best to check beforehand - most helpful hosts. Many beautiful ornaments within villa and stairs down to underbuild / snug would not be suitable for young children.

I'm Portuguese therefore I know all the country and to me Guimarães is, along with Porto, the most beautiful city in my country! It's historical centre is magnificent! The castle, the palace, Largo da Oliveira and the surrounding streets and historical buildings make us feel like we are in the middle ages! It's truly magical!

Historic Center is good with lots of restaurants and courtyards. The cable car to the top of the mountain is a must do. It is 7.5 euros return. Residents take a lot of pride in their city. Most of the tourists are Portueguese . Prices are less than in the Algarve. Appears to be great bus service, but everything within walking distance.

Guimarães is an acient town where Portugal originated.
Guimarães is an acient town where Portugal originated. It is quite small. It's enough for the Visitors who don't have any specific plans to spend 1 whole day to see all the most important historical sites in this city.

Some locals call it "The Heart of Portugal" because what became the country of Portugal began it's fight for liberation from Moorish Occupation here. The castle from then is still standing and is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The old city center is nicely preserved and is very walkable. Regional food is hearty and very tasty. While it is touristy, it is also a university city. Pretty lively with a good range of affordability in eating, staying, and shopping.

Guimaraes was a lovely historical town with a lot to see just walking around - historical churches, lots of restaurants and pretty sites. We went to Citania de Briterios (2,000 year old Celtic village) - a short drive away - and loved it. We could have spent longer here.
This hotel is on the perfect.loaction. 10 min walk from the train, and 5 minutes from the historic center. It was a very nice room, clean and comfortable with a lot of nice little touches. Robes, coffee, two small water bottles in the fridge. We had the downstairs room with a private patio, which was nice. The breakfast was really good. Yogurt, cereal, bread, meat and cheese, fruit, juice, sweets, and great coffee. The person serving breakfast was very nice and friendly too. We would definitely recommend this to our friends.
Extremely well located Bnb with a fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. This bnb spams across multiple buildings in the same lovely street, with one of them having tables you can request to use as a temporary desk to do some work. You are also located very close to the main Guimarães attractions and eateries, and on top of a local restaurant that's an institution to the city! Make sure you have some snacks and beer / wine from the Tasca do Tio Júlio, and soak in the breeze as you eat by this great quiet street.
This was the most beautiful property. I was blown away by the 17th century Baroque Gardens and gorgeous pool. Our "apt" was perfect - great style and lovely views from our front porch. Jose and Hugo were the most accommodating, hospitable and friendly hosts. They even added some special tastings for us. Guimaraes is well located as a base in this area. We had such a wonderful time staying at Villa Margaridi! Our highest recommendation!!!
We stayed here for 4 nights. The apartment is very spacious and was perfect for our 1 year old to explore. Everything was super clean, and it felt like we were staying in a hotel, but with a really well equipped kitchen. We were provided with a cot and fresh sheets for our daughter and our own bed was very comfy. The terrace was a nice addition. Location was also perfect. Would definitely stay here again next time we're in Guimarães.
Everything, really. Antonio is a wonderful host. Clearly takes care of the apartment, it had every amenity we needed, was super clean and had a lot of space. Free parking was a relief as well. His recommendations about what to see in town, restaurants, etc. were also helpful. Very responsive to questions/communicates quickly.
If you have a group and visiting Guimaraes, definitely stay there, you won't regret it.
Hotel Fundador is a favourite of mine in Guimarães. Close to the train station, but still in walking distance from the centre, the hotel is very comfortable for a 3* and features amazing views over the city and the surroundings. Large, modern, and spotlessly clean rooms, strong wi-fi signal. Good breakfast offer.
Well located in a quiet edge of the old town, and close to shops and restaurants. It has a few parking spots. Our room was spacious, quiet and with good temperature control. Wifi was fast and reliable. The staff and especially the hotel manager are friendly and helpful.
Everything was super good specially the people in the reception. We could also work in the common spaces during the day. Highly recommended.
(To booking stuff => I keep writing because I can not submit. Please leave people write what they want. Thanks)
Located in centre of Guimarães, good security, good room with space to move around, breakfast included was continental breakfast and good choice of hot and cold foods. Staff helpful and spoke English well. Very happy with everything.
An amazing, renovated historical property in Guimarães, PT owned by the professional tennis player João Sousa. It retains the historical flavor with very comfortable, modern amenities and cheeky tennis references throughout.
We loved the hotel just next to the Centre of Guimaraes, we nice attention and we loved the deal with the nearby Parking, for a small price one can leave the car.
Bed very confortable and very affordable breakfast.
Very clean. Great location. We had the top apartment, which had lots of space. Just be aware if booking the top apartment that there are some steep stairs to climb up for the last flight of stairs.
The location is perfect, at the heart of Guimaraes historic center. Breakfast was particularly good. The hotel has a nice terrace at the back. It is a vacation hotel, not convenient for business.
The rooms were ok, according to what you pay. Easy to reach the city center walking and free parking space available. The staff was nice but the hotel needs some renovation. The room was quiet...
The place was impeccable!, extremely clean, quiet, nice area, nice people, easy access, everything I could ask for!.
If you ever come to Guimaraes THI IS THE PLACE TO STAY!
The hotel is modern and very well appointed. Location is great. Restaurants close by.
The breakfast is amazing!!
Staff very professional.
Highly recommend
Great location, superb staff and spacious breakfast area, offering an excellent choice of food. The hotel has a nice open-air pool and guests can access the spa.
