Martyn and Louise gave us a very warm welcome and really looked after us. Their home is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed being guests there.
The breakfast was exceptional in every way. It included a selection of freshly made cakes, lovingly made by Louise. The creamy porridge, homemade granola, all the cooked dishes, all were superb.
Staying here is now such a good memory; somewhere we’d enjoy returning too.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

Ballater is a fantastic area, such beautiful surroundings with lots to do. Lots of walking and cycling options.
The town itself has beautiful buildings and architecture.
I love the area so much, I'm looking to buy a property and move there permanently.
Everything was exceptional. The bed and linens were wonderful, the room and bath was large, the breakfast was phenomenal. Louise is a fantastic cook and left lemon cake and homemade shortbread in our room. Martin met us at our car, carried in our bags (such a help as we are older), and told us everything we needed to know about the house and Ballater. Their home is absolutely gorgeous, every detail is complete. It was a joy to stay at Craggan. And the view and terrace is so pretty!
Beautiful old church as the name would suggest. Helen was wonderful. She welcomed us in, sat with us and explained the accommodation and then arranged a dinner reservation at a local restaurant (The Angus & Ale) on a very busy night in Ballater. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic. We spent that morning at the bagpipe parade (part of the Highland Games) in a nearby town and then did a very nice hike on the grounds at Balmoral.
Lovely, quirky, very clean and cosy in a lovely spot.
Had fun lighting the stove, learning how to make proper coffee and hot tub. Hosts were quick to answer any queries pre arrival and were on hand during our stay. Walked round nearby loch Muick one day - stunning. Ballater is a lovely wee village with lots of walks, excellent Bakery and Indian restuarant.
We were warmly welcomed as we arrived on our cycles, even though we were quite wet. Our host washed and dried our cycle gear and looked after us very well.
This area is very expensive for accommodation, but we felt against this background we chose well.
Highly recommend for those cycling Lands End to John O'Groats as the host is very cycle friendly!
A good-sized bedroom and bathroom, and the property was well located for our purposes. A good breakfast, with a conveniently early option, which suited us as we were running a race beginning in Braemar, and had to be there quite early.
We drove the couple of miles to Ballater in the evening for food, and there were lots of eating options there.
Our stay at Hillside was exceptional! The place is immaculate, the accomodations and furnishings are beyond exceptional, in a very quiet area but close walk to everything. There is an outdoor patio to relax and enjoy, too. Phil is a character and made us feel right at home and was so helpful with suggestions of what to do. We highly recommend it!
Great and well equipped cottage in beautiful Ballater. Fab location for exploring the surrounding area and the little town has all amenities you need. The hosts are very accommodating and communication was very good. We would definitely go back.
The location was great. Very handy for cafes/ shops. Lovely location beside river. Private parking. Dog friendly which was important to us. The apartment was very comfortable and provided everything we needed. Would recommend!
The Alexandra Hotel was wonderful!
Everything was just fab!
Rooms were very clean and comfortable. The evening meal I had and the breakfast on offer was amazing.
The staff were super friendly and very welcoming.
The hotel and surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. The staff was very friendly, the beds were very comfortable, and the ensuite bathroom was beautiful (great water pressure/temperatures in the shower).
Beautiful hotel, was like stepping back in time. Room was large with all facilities including an ironing board. .
Fantastic grounds and surrounding area. Really enjoyed exploring.
Fascinating stay in the small and cosy city of Ballater, near Balmoral Castle. Great hosts who took good care of us and served great breakfast and gave us good advice on the area.
Never been in a hotel so clean! Lovely and very modern. Natali and Toni were fabulous hosts. Breakfast was excellent. Very well located for a short walk into Ballater.
lovely traditional Scottish hotel. Fabulous room. Great food. excellent location in the heart of Ballater. Staff could not have been any friendlier or more helpful.
