I was very well received by the host. He showed me around, gave me some privacy and had a drink prepared when I was coming down after a shower. I immediately felt very cosy and good. The hostel is located in Vidigal, a pacified favela, up on a hill. I felt 100% safe the whole time, people were very friendly and helpful. The view from the roof terrace is outstanding. You'll overlook the beach of Leblon and Ipanema. On Jan 1st, in order to welcome the new year, the host organised a BBQ on the roof terrace, that was incredible. I shared the room with 6 other people from Canada, Germany and Brasil. Everyone was really outreaching and we spent almost all the time together. The Vidigal beach is a 10 min walk away, for example, beautiful and less crowded than Copacabana etc. I guess it was a real traveller's experience and I feel like I got at least some idea of what Rio life feels like. Thanks for everything, happy to come back soon!
