Set in Locarno and within 600 metres of Piazza Grande Locarno, Binario 934 Boutique Hotel has a bar, non-smoking rooms, and free WiFi throughout the property. Very quiet so don't worry about being so close to station. This and the Ticino card provided by hotel allowed us to take numerous day trips, and even go down to Lugano and back for dinner. Few minutes walk to lake, but don't stay here if you want a balcony and lake view. Good breakfast and helpful staff.

Hotel Geranio Au Lac ligger ved promenaden langs Lago Maggiore, bare 100 meter fra Locarno jernbanestasjon og sentrum. Hotellet tilbyr frokostbuffé. I love this hotel. I've stayed twice, once as a solo traveler and once with my sister, visiting me from the USA. The hotel is in an amazing location, with the waterfront on one side and a shortcut to the train station on the other. Restaurants, coffee shops and gelato are just next door. The rooms are minimalist. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast is great, and I love that cappuccino, hot chocolate and vending machines are available at all times on the second floor. The staff was fantastic, each time.

Hotel la Palma au Lac is situated on the beautiful lake promenade of Locarno, a few steps from the city centre. All rooms provide a TV, a safe and a private bathroom. The hotel was an easy walk from the station- when you walk down the short hill to the lake side it’s worth crossing the road and walking along the lake. The gardens are gorgeous. The staff on reception, Gian and a lovely young woman whose name I didn’t get, were superb - welcoming & knowledgeable about Locarno. I was early, and Gian phoned me when my room was ready. The views were superb - it’s worth paying for a lakeside balcony room, although a tad exie. The breakfast was generous with a wide selection, even for vegetarians - a bonus was the outdoor terrace. The steam room and sauna were very well appointed. The jacuzzis had a wonderful aspect with views over the lake, although I found them overly chlorinated - certainly not a negative, but personal preference. It was a short walk to the ferries. Make sure you ask for the Ticino visitors pass - free buses & trains within the Canton & some limited ferry services and good discounts on the the funicular to the Madonna del Sasso sanctuary (you can walk up and/or down - many steep stairs - I walked down) and the adjoining cable car/chair lift to Alpe Cardada/Cimetta, both of which I recommend. Fabulous view to Monte Rosa and some good hiking. Lake swimming is accessible almost right in front of the hotel - the water clarity is wonderful and many species of water birds. The old town around the Piazza Grande was a treat as well, although it was very hot and they were setting up for a music festival.

Completely renovated in 2012 and 2013, Hotel Rio Muralto occupies a 19th-century villa in a central location opposite the Locarno Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Piazza Grande, and offers you... The staff were incredibly helpful and lovely.

Located in Muralto, Miralago Locarno Easy Rooms is just 50 metres from the promenade on Lake Maggiore, 500 metres from Locarno's centre and 200 metres from the harbour. It offers free Wi-Fi. Wonderful place, extremely friendly staff and perfect location- near to the train station, near to the lake. Just wonderful!!!
