Though the whole place is not big, it has pretty much everything, even a small stove to cook. The location is directly opposite of Kii-Katsuura Station, you can even check the departure monitor from the bedroom window. Also the community in the hostel was great: when we were there university students temporarily worked on their business ideas there, introducing us to wood carving, painting and their self-made muesli bars. Talking to them was very fun and made possible forming connections to Japanese people, which can be usually hard for foreign tourists.

Kumano Backpackers is located in Tanabe and features a shared lounge and a communal kitchen. The property is set 50 metres from Kumano Hongu Taisha shrine and just a minute's walk away from Hongu Taisha Mae bus stop. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. Great place! Hongu is a wonderful town. Staff were nice and location next to the Temple was a bonus. Rooms and common facilities were clean. Hostel is well run by a Buddhist monk.

Rental bicycles are provided for touring the area and guests can relax in the quiet garden. The entrance to the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes is a 10-minute walk away. I felt very welcome, and the owner helped me a lot for my trip. I loved the interior of the Guesthouse.Its design is in the details. Koji gave me a lot of information about day trips on Kumano Kodo, also about the good Izakaya in Kii Tanabe. A place that comes with my highest recommendation!

Bathroom facilities and Toilet are shared with extras including toothbrushes. I really felt at home here! Yes, there are minimal amenities, but it has a really cozy feeling to it. My room was quite spacious and very affordable. The staff is very kind and helpful, the manager recommended the best onsen to me, and knew which hot springs were tattoo friendly. He spoke English very well. It is a great location too, only a few minutes walk to the beach, and very close to the convenience store. I'm really happy I stayed here :)
