This is a wonderful museum of art and antiquities.
This is a wonderful museum of art and antiquities. It is well curated and has many excellent permanent and rotating exhibits. The impressionist paintings are great for a museum of this size. They also have fun kids activities. The cafe is a great place for a cup of tea and cakes. The gift shop has nice presents for taking home. We spent a lot of time at this museum especially in winter or on rainy days as a fun thing to do. Admission is free. Opening hours are pretty favorable.

At present (May 2022) and for some months to come most Impressionist and later paintings are not on view. This is partly because of a large Hockney exhibition (which was certainly interesting), as well as wide roof repairs. This was a pity and was not announced in the website. Also, the catering facility is very basic, which is mentioned. However, the museum is free and has much else to see and enjoy. ( But eat first!).

The Fitzwilliam Museum is a splendid cultural point in the city, representing the best of western art history and anthropology. I wish that I had travelled there earlier in the life of my family. Routes into the city for afternoon events or points of car stay are a bit foggy and discourage families with kids, parents, gran etc. If the museums and collages could amalgamate to set up a small bus which makes stops through the tourist points it would help. The city needs an overall transportation plan. The flow of traffic is heavy and multi purpose. Kyoto has maintained and excellent system. .

The staff at Lensfield Hotel were without exception friendly and helpful. As I was unable to sleep the first night on the extremely uncomfortable, poorly spring mattress in my single room, I was offered a different room and complimentary breakfast with apologies . The continental style breakfast buffet was copious and kept well provisioned throughout. This is an extremely well located hotel for visiting Cambridge, just metres from the Scott Polar Museum and a short walk to the Fitzwilliam museum.
The location is marvelous. It is a 3 minute walk to the Fitzwilliam Museum and the colleges and sites are very convenient and all within an easy walk. I was happy with my stay and the price was good. It was very clean and the room (a single) was small but comfortable. Nice bed.
We came to Cambridge mainly to visit the Fitzwilliam Museum and your location for this and it's close proximity to the train station could not have been better. Our stay was so comfortable and staff very friendly.
