The room was big and comfortable, the location is amazing, and the host is simply spectacular. She helped me with everything I needed, from logistics to rest of travel planning, which I think is what made my stay in Calafate so great. I would stay again, and reccommend you do!

A decent spot to stay on the edge of town near the lake. A bit of a walk from the centre, but relatively peaceful. Small rooms, fairly functional, shared bathrooms are alright. Kitchen area is reasonable. WiFi is a bit temperamental. As with most places in the town, it's overpriced for what you get but on par with the higher tourist rates in the area. Staff are generally welcoming and helpful, can be a little pushy with booking tours through them which can easily be arranged independently if you wish.

The main area (where everyone cooks/ have their meals etc) was very noisy even after official lights out, the rooms itself felt very squeezy and there were lots of unofficial movement around the rooms/ hostel as to where or who were staying (felt like the place was overbooked).

Missing some things in the kitchen - had very few plates/bowls/mugs etc. for the number of guests. One wall in our room had a gap at the top which meant we could hear everything in the room next door. They allow check-in throughout the night which for us meant people checking into our room at 2:30am and staying up/making noise until 4:30am... this isn't just the fault of the hostel clearly.

Great location with lake views from the kitchen/dining room. It's right next to the nature reserve which means it's peaceful, also not too far from the town centre to walk. Two really light and well decorated communal spaces to sit and eat. Bathrooms are good size, showers have hot water and high pressure. Staff are very friendly, helpful and keep things very clean - thank you so much to them.

We could constantly smell gas, which is actually dangerous. Even on check in the room smelt of gas. The shower ran out of hot water in less than 2 minutes - I had only just got shampoo in my hair. When you pay for a private bathroom this isnt acceptable. The shower was also a wet room which wasnt pleasant. There was a lack of space, it would cost very little money to resolve this by simply adding some shelves and cupboards (which there were none). No oil or basic condiments - this is my 13th hostel in Central/ South America, and the only one where I've found this for the price is not acceptable. There was a lack of pans/utensils in our kitchen so we had to take then from the shared kitchen, which there wasnt many either. There was no storage for clothes either. The 3 coat hooks we had fell down with only 2 coats on them. When asked to be shown other rooms it took the host 10 hours to speak to us. When we asked for information, the focus was trying to sell us tours for other activities we hadnt asked about.

The hostel was by the laguna.

We stayed here for a few days in one of the private rooms with our own bathroom. The host, Lucy, came and spoke with us upon our arrival about all the things we could do while we were in town. The room wasn't super comfortable, but we weren't spending a ton of time unless we were sleeping :)

The shower was really bad and the room was small. If you want to pay by card, they will add a fee of 15% of the amount, so the stay ended up being more expensive than What I had planned.

What you don't know when booking: the apartment is dark and has concrete ceilings like in a basement, especially the sleeping room which is not shown in the pictures. The beds are veery basic. We would have been ok with that but the bed linen seemed to be used (there where stains) which is not acceptable. The booking is in USD and you can only pay in cash. For the payment in Pesos they use their own exchange rate which they call "official" but has nothing to do with the official rate. So keep in mind the price will be higher than you expect according to the price in the booking.
