How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Paul and Val were both fabulous hosts and their guest house is both welcoming and homely. The standard is excellent throughout from the lovely presented room to the amazing breakfast. Couldn't have asked for a nicer stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again in the future, highly recommended.

Can’t think of anything.
Easy to tell that hosts Val and Paul have very thoughtfully set up this guest house and want their guests to have a relaxing and comfortable stay. We had a wonderful two nights/three days here. No complaints!

A warm welcome. I arrived in pouring rain on my bike, but Val didn’t bat an eyelid even as I dripped rainwater onto her hallway rug! Paul whisked my bike away to their shed - and brought it out for me again the next morning. My room was beautiful - with the best pillows! I slept like a log. Breakfast was excellent - my hot food choice was restaurant quality.

The only thing to note was the pillows were too firm for me. I am a back sleeper and need a softer pillow but other than that, I couldn't fault this charming guest house and if I'm ever back in Inverness I would definitely return here!
Val was very friendly and attentive. The property is spotless and has a cosy, homely feel. The room was perfect for what I needed and the bed was very comfy.

I found nothing to dislike about this guest house
Nice and quiet away from the town room was excellent and clean bed was very comfortable very little noise from other guests staying there

There was nothing NOT to like it was an outstanding stay.
The location was excellent. We parked our car for our two day stay. We walked the river walk and to city center. The breakfast was excellent and served with a smile and pleasant conversation.

Immaculately clean and comfortable room. Nicely decorated, and furnished with quality furniture. Apart from the quality of the decoration etc the location as it’s only a 20 minute walk from the city centre and a number of good restaurants including The Mustard Seed.

Was a little worried that we had to arrive by 7pm check in as had quite a long journey and there can be delays.
Welcoming friendly owners. Handy for river side walk to bars and Resturants.

Nothing. It was our first time ever in a guest house and the bar has been set very high !
Exceptionally clean. All details thought of ( right down to ear plugs in case are a light sleeper) . There is nothing you could want in the room that isn’t provided. Comfortable bed. Lovely furnishings . Spacious bathroom with quality toiletries.Great location . Fabulous hosts. One of us fell ill during our stay and were treated with kindness and understanding. We then left a kindle behind - which was posted to us. That sums up the exceptional customer service.

Hosts were fabulous and very accommodating. The whole house was immaculate. Fantastic breakfast and even got up to make breakfast a 5am for those taking part in a cycle event.

WI-FI was slow.
Good location, lots of parking. Great breakfast. Hosts even got up early to make breakfast for those doing bike event at 5am. Thank you.

If you're considering a visit to the Highlands, I would highly recommend booking a few nights at Avalon. The location is superb, the rooms are incredibly cozy, delicately furnished, and impeccably clean. The thoughtful amenities, such as paper cups for making takeaway coffee, fresh milk, sleep masks, makeup remover, and more, truly made us feel at home. Val and Paul are exceptionally kind hosts who exemplify genuine hospitality. They also provided excellent recommendations for local attractions and dining options. I will definitely return in the near future.
