How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Nothing to be said, all good.
Location was excellent, and very peaceful. This was a no breakfast booking, but everything was available in your room to do your own. The room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean, with a good sized bathroom.

The location was absolutely stunning and close to everything. Rooms were outstandingly clean, very big and beautifully decorated. Every tiny added touch of the room was amazing. The cream teas were delicious, views were gorgeous and the owners could not have done any more if they had tried. We felt so welcome and will definitely be returning. Thankyou.

The location was amazing, near Crackington Haven, Bude and Boscastle. Caroline and Trevor were amazing hosts. the room was exceptionally clean, the views were amazing. I highly recommend Mandalay.

Great location for visiting the area with Bude, Boscastle, Bodmin, Padstow, Tintagel etc close by. Everything we needed for a couple of nights stay. Caroline and Trevor were very welcoming and helpful. Lovely cream tea to welcome us as well. We will be back.

We had a wonderful time at the Mandalay, and we wished that we had stayed a little longer. The hosts have thought of everything and were very accommodating; sharing useful tips and recommendations within the local area. All topped off with a beautiful location.

Everything had been thought of to make our stay enjoyable. Lots of kitchen bits and bobs, space for clothing and cooking/eating and a lovely outdoor seating area (perfect for when the weather is better). Lovely treat of a cream tea was left for us to enjoy as well.

Room was immaculate. Spacious and clean, with a great view of the sea from the window. The room was equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The hosts were extremely helpful and provided a list of recommendations in the are which we used throughout our stay.

The location was great and easy to access many coastal towns and villages. The property was quiet with great facilities including fridge and toaster. The bed was comfortable.

Nothing not to like about this lovely little place
We loved absolutely everything. The room was perfect with excellent attention to detail throughout. It was immaculately clean, warm, comfortable and welcoming. The owners were kind, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back soon

There wasn't anything that we didn't like.
Very helpful and friendly owner. Our room at Mandalay was of very high quality. It had a very comfortable bed. The room fittings and fixtures are finished to a high standard. Every little detail has been thought about. It was good to have some basic self catering things available. The shower is very good. We really appreciated the treats that were left for us to eat.

Washing up in the bathroom. A small niggle and would not put us off coming again.
immaculately clean. Very well presented and cosy. Quiet position. Easy access parking. Views to the sea. Near our favourite beaches and Boscastle.

We loved the fact that time and effort was put in to make sure we felt at home. Our hostess was absolutely smashing, friendly and full of info on where to visit and places to eat. Would definitely recommend.

Loved everything about this room, so much attention to detail with everything you could need for a comfy stay and things you didn't even know you needed! Beautiful big room with an amazing balcony, spotlessly clean, wonderful shower - could have stood in that all day. I will just say that all the reviews are spot on, this is such a beautiful place to stay and Caroline was so lovely too. If you are reading this review just go ahead and book, you won't be disappointed!
