Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe liked the ambience of the place. The facilities were good, we had everything we needed. The location is excellent for visiting the city. Easy walking distance Our room was very comfortable, and the two minor issues were dealt with very efficiently. Breakfast was lovely, and my need for gluten-free food was well catered for.. we would certainly return if we were in the area.

United KingdomDon't be put of staying by the outside building and uneven carpark, still to be decorated. A pleasant surprise greets you in side.
It was comfortable, clean and a great comfy bedroom. The hotel was newly decorated and furnished, with great decor. Good breakfast choices and lovely informative owner. Pretty garden and roof top terrace garden, with lots of seating. Free all day parking. Short walk to York Minster and shops.

United KingdomOur room was lovely and spacious with a nice big bay window. The location was excellent, just a short stroll to the minster and shops, bars, and restaurants. The breakfast was the best we have ever had! The hosts, Michal and Agnes, were friendly and knowledgeable about the area and couldn't do enough for us. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this place.

United KingdomI was very happy with everything I experienced. There was really nothing I did not like.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Burton Stone Inn. Parking was very easy, just behind the building. The room was a real surprise! It was clear a great deal of thought and planning had gone into the room and the result was a very stylish, comfortable area to relax in. The en-suite bathroom had been carefully incorporated into the room and the shower was fantastic. The bed, a four poster (a first for me!) was very comfortable and I slept very well. The property is on a road which is quite busy during the day, however it’s quiet at night and I was not disturbed even with the window open. The city centre is a 10 minute walk away with all the attractions it has to offer. The hosts were welcoming and kindly provided a guide book with map so it was very easy to enjoy some local sightseeing. I almost forgot the roof terrace - a delightful little communal area to relax in and quite the sun trap when the weather cooperates.

New ZealandNothing really. The stairs to the top room were steep but it is a stretch to say that this was a problem.
Plenty of room. The host Michil is a gem. Always cherry, nothing was a bother. Great breakfast, there is a menu or he'll make something to order within what he has. Absolutely wonderful. Close to one of the gates with a few eating places.

United KingdomThe location was fantastic- within walking distance of the city but not crowded with parking available on site. The hosts were friendly and understanding, adding to the personality of the inn. The room itself was clean, aesthetic and had plug sockets placed in convenient locations. Although we did not make use of the terrace, it was available. Breakfast was delicious with a buffet for cold items and hot options available to order.

United KingdomThe hospitality was great - Mikal couldn't have been more helpful and cheery. The hotel's decor was really nice, breakfast was very good + though a little further from the centre than we thought for those with mobility issues a bus stop is just a little way away. We would definitely stay there again.

United KingdomNothing. The building is not much to look at from the outside but nicely decorated and comfortable inside.
The location is ideal for visiting York and its sights. Lots of good places to eat in the evening within walking distance, Delicious freshly cooked breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. The ideal place to stay for York and we would definitely stay again. We walked to York minster, the railway museum and the shambles. So nice not to have to find a place to park.

Netherlands-
The owners, Michal and Gaby, are very friendly and welcoming and very accommodating. They make you feel at home straight from the start. They know a lot about York and North Yorkshire and have provided us with very useful information about what there is to see and also which restaurants to go to. The B&B is strategically situated on the road near the town centre, at less than 10 minute’s walk. We had a lovely room with an en suite on the first floor at the front. The beds are made up daily, the bathroom is cleaned daily, it is all very clean. The pub downstairs is a hub for the locals and the guests, friendly atmosphere. Breakfast is very good, English and continental. We certainly recommend the Burton Stone Inn!
