When we booked on booking.com it stated the hotel had parking. However we put the postcode into our satnav and we couldn’t get close to the hotel. After trying a few times we rang the hotel and were told we had to park in the Q car park Shambles, we had to do this online before and this cost £17.50. We then had to walk to the hotel with our cases. This was very misleading.

Location was great and so was the breakfast.

We booked a standard room, so the bed was a small double (husband 6ft4 so a tad small), also, our room faced the afternoon sun and although the temperature outside was quite mild, the room get very hot, and apart from a fan, there is no aircon so in the height of summer, if you don’t like the heat, it would be extremely uncomfortable. Also a minor thing, there was no hairdryer & that’s a basic expectation these days. If you have mobility issues considerations are the stairs (all rooms are only accessible by stairs) and car park.

Amazing location, probably the best in York! super friendly staff, lovely restaurant & cute/quaint rooms. We actually liked that the parking was away from the hotel. Most of the tiny streets around the hotel are blocked off for pedestrians during the day anyway and so it is much easier to be out of all of that. It took us only 7 or 8 minutes to walk to the hotel from the carpark. We didn’t find it a hassle at all. Also the restaurant is super busy so make sure you book before your stay. We did, as recommended, and were glad!

Only downside was noise from rubbish collection truck around 4.30 - 5.00am in the morning as our room overlooked street but as we chose to stay in the old part of York close to Shambles with its narrow streets and really old properties thats not the hotels fault and other than that we had a lovely break.

Great location lovely choice of food for breakfast and well cooked. Staff were nice and friendly and helpful. Room was clean and bathroom and toilet

Galtres Lodge is ideally located in central York. It is old and quirky and full of charm. The staff were friendly, helpful and very accommodating . The breakfasts enjoyed by myself, my partner and my son were great. Would definitely go back.

Galtres Lodge Hotel is quaint and atmospheric. It is situated right around the corner from York Minster and amongst cute and interesting shops and the hustle and bustle of York. The breakfast at Forest Restaurant was marvellous! I had the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had there! The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.

I wouldn't recommend driving there as parking costs and its much easily accessible via public transport. It can get busy with foot traffic and some of the streets are narrow so have your wits about you.

Very well placed property. Close proximity to everything including York Minster. Unlike some other hotels/B&Bs, their breakfast is included in the price, and it is a very generous breakfast! The rooms are quaint, charming and full of character (not to mention their secret garden lol shhhh). Staff are lovely and helpful too! Side note... I would definitely recommend the Shambles food market! Lots of choices and some great food!

From the start my visit was exceptional. I called in advance and mentioned my stay was an important occasion. They booked a lovely table for me on arrival, and even kept it after train cancellation meant I was late. My room was superb. Again, they chose a special room for me with a view of the Minster. A really nice touch. The room was outstanding. Lovely atmosphere, comfy bed, very quiet. The food was exceptionally good. I have never had a breakfast as well prepared and devised as this one. A large range of delicious options - every detail spot on. The eggs on both days were nothing short of historic. The porridge, often a humble offering was spectacular, options for coconut milk, fruit, nuts, honey and cooked beautifully. The 'Full Yorkshire' was divine. good portions and each part perfectly cooked and seasoned, all the items of good quality and local. The location is the best in York in every way, the view, the street, the vibe of the area. The price is astonishingly good. This sort of quality would be double the price in any other city - even my own, Dundee. Quite simply the best value hotel I have ever stayed in and I've stayed in a lot of them, both grand and bad. Trust me on this, you won't find a better place to stay. The staff? so friendly, but professional. There when you need them but not over fussy. There was a wonderful server called Nina in the restaurant who was worth a visit in her own right. She was hilarious and had all the guests smiling. Thank you Galtres Lodge for a delightful and memorable stay.
