Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomStains on the duvet cover and soft furnishings let the room down a bit sadly. Also at this price point I think more of a breakfast offering should be in place (some warm pastries and coffee/tea are available upon request), this was stated at the time of booking and did not deter me from booking, however I still think at this price point it should be looked into. Other than those minor issues the stay was very enjoyable.
The hotel looks amazing, reception is beautiful and the staff were incredibly warm and friendly. The decor of the room was great, dark and cozy. Being in the basement meant no windows but I think that just made it feel more secluded and private. The 10% discount card for the bar and affiliated restaurants was a nice touch as well.

United KingdomThe hotel is very dark inside and has no lift, which is difficult for me as I'm severely visually impaired (legally blind). The hot tub could do with a wooden roof over it as there's no view and this would allow some coverage if it rained. The location of the hotel is great as everything is so close, but for picking up and dropping off it's not great. As a disabled person, there was nowhere to park that was close by, or even just to drop me off and pick me up. I could walk to the end of the street but would have to sit there alone for at least 30mins with the bags while my husband went to fetch the car and drive back to me. York in general is not ideal if you have mobility issues as there are a lot of pavements that are uneven and have no ramps. The issues with the hotel are clearly detailed on their website and we did know about them before going. Not an ideal room if you want a desk to do your make-up or put a laptop as there isn't one. Lastly, the frosted glass door with the toilet right behind it and a gap around the edge of the door (no lock) was fine but I'm not sure everyone would appreciate the lack of privacy.
The room was small but the outside space made it feel bigger. The female staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and the staff there were also amazing, and went above and beyond to make our anniversary special. While there was no view, the hot tub was amazing. The lights and music were great and it was clean and warm, as was the rest of the hotel. The bed was small but very comfortable. I tried to find out what the reed diffuser smell was that was in the reception and our room because it was gorgeous, but was unsuccessful. The vibe and decor of the hotel is gorgeous but I'm glad I wasn't in the basement. I think I would only stay in the rooms above ground personally.

Loved the style of the motel. Was something different. Me and my husband enjoyed it. I’d booked it as a surprise. And he loved it. Was comfortable. And the roll top bath was fantastic to relax. We stayed it the labyrinth room. And the lovely bathbomb that we got was lovely. As well as the whipped soap. Just little things that’s made our stay lovely. Staff were helpful. And we even got on the room early which even though is not guaranteed. It was great that they got our room ready and let us know as soon as it was. Made celebrating our wedding anniversary a great time.

United KingdomTo be expected there was some street noise, but we were informed at the time of booking and it didn't bother us. It is part and parcel of the central location, so not an issue for us, but something to bear in mind if you want complete silence.
The central location was great to be able to explore the city without having to carry around our bags etc. Lots of lovely restaurants and cafes in the immediate area meaning it was easy to enjoy the hotel and the city.

United KingdomThe distance from the nearest parking. Unless you drop off someone with your bags you have to carry them through the main street. Min 10 walk from the parking especially navigating around the crowds. Felt like an airport trek.

United KingdomA proper breakfast would of been nice and there was no proper bar open when I visited. I stayed in a room upstairs on my 4th day which was very nice but the aircon wasn't cool enough for me and the window wasn't openable.
I stayed in the windowless basement room which was very cool and atmospheric, found the room well appointed and dark and moody interior throughout hotel, there wasn't any real breakfast apart from coffee n pastry which I couldn't get as left early for work but was brought to room upon request but it wasn't to my liking so never bothered following mornings, the hotel is located great for sightseeing.

United KingdomI don't think there is anything I disliked about the hotel but if I had to pick something I would say the bathroom is on the small side.
The hotel was very quirky and different but luxurious, the rooms were very accommodating and the bed was so comfortable. The location was 10/10 right in the middle of York and I will definitely be returning. The free complimentary soap was an added bonus.
