How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The view online is the minster but our view was a brick wall
I stayed at the Moxy for two nights with my husband. Room was a nice size, very clean. Our rooms where cleaned and bedding and towels where changed. It’s right next to the city centre. It has a really good modern vibe. Food & breakfast was really good, so much choice for everyone. I would definitely recommend and stay again

Standard double room & bathroom was too small with no bedroom storage furniture, meaning that you have to live out of your cases. No facility to drive close to the main entrance to drop off & collect luggage. The closest pull up was on a quiet back road about 50+ meters away from the entrance, necessitating use of a luggage trolly; that could be a problem if parking/stopping restrictions are enforced, especially as a nearby apartment block development is likely to put a strain on accessibility by car.
Decoration, lighting & presentation was modern and upbeat. Security appeared to be good, with lift access controlled by room card keys. More relaxed feel to design and approach of this hotel and we would consider staying there again, particularly if a larger room is available. Location wrt to the city centre was good with nearby discounted parking available in what appears to be a secure parking facility.

The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere in the reception area is amazing. They have lots of games dotted around the tables and they host a quiz night on a Friday! The rooms are really lovely and modern with plenty of facilities. This was our first time in York and we would love to stay there again when we return!

Staff were not very knowledgeable about the Q Park shambles and many other things. Everything felt like an effort for them which I felt was not acceptable for a good customer experience! The post code I was given did not take me to the car park and so I called the hotel and the person I spoke to did not have a clue. On check in we were not explained too by staff where things were and how things worked.. for example lockers, the lift and free hot drinks before 10am and the fact that housekeeping doesn't start till 10! No phone in the room so had to use my mobile call reception! On checkout we asked to leave our luggage in the back room as we did on check in and we were told too use the lockers which were too small for our bags! Room was surprisingly small and bathroom tiny for what we we were expecting for the price we paid! Also the room was very dusty!
The hotel is in a really good location and very modern. Loved the ironing room facility. Restaurant food was very tasty and mot bad value for money. Downstairs lobby had a nice relaxing atmosphere!

Clean, spacious room. Perfect blackout curtains and comfortable bed. Amazing continental breakfast - very good choice! Lots of games to entertain yourself, also there is a gym which is a big plus. Very friendly and professional staff. Fantastic hotel!

it is a bit expensive but all accommodations in York are expensive...
Design and decoration of the hotel is amazing, they have arcade games at lobby that you can play :) breakfast was great with gluten free and vegan options. bed was comfortable and the sound proofing was great. location is very close to the center.

Clothing storage in room could have been a lot better especially if you were staying 7 nights or more like we were.

Treating a single booking for 2 rooms (via booking.com) as 2 separate bookings and applying a £10 credit card surcharge to both stuck in the throat a little. When challenged on this we got a "computer says no" response from staff.
A small but really well appointed room with great toiletries in the bathroom and one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in away from home.
