How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Situated at the heart of Kirkwall it is a spacious small apartment with two bedrooms upstairs and a living room/kitchen downstairs. The kitchen is well equipped and the whole space is comfortable. Communication with our host was very good.

Bedrooms being upstairs. The stairs are steep and anyone with mobility problems would have great difficulty going up and down. We kept our suitcases downstairs for that reason.
Excellent loccation just a few minutes walk from the Cathedral and other attractions. Close to ferry terminal which was something we needed for our onward journey. Kitchen had everything you needed. Bed was comfortable but a little small. Heating excellent, wi-fi excellent.

Location is best if you want to travel all over orkney. Nearby bars, transport, grocery, etc. The way they kept the property before we checked in caught my eye. Clean, refurbishments and the supplies provided were more than enough for us.

The owner was fantastic, friendly and kind. Went above and beyond. The house was absolutely beautiful. I would give it a 5 star rating. I'll definitely recommend to friends and family and I'll most definitely stay again.

Nothing - everything was perfect.
Good central location, very clean and fresh. It also had everything you could possibly need to hand along with Orkney biscuits and cheese available on arrival - great for a relaxing cup of tea and a bit of shortbread to get your holiday started!

Nothing really. There is parking provided in front of the property, (that's good ...), but getting a vehicle in and out was a bit tricky; moral: have a small hire car! Other than that absolutely no complaints!!
Excellent central location. Property was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Also very warm and cosy - necessary in Orkney in October!

I found the couch too soft but at least the side chairs were firm. All else was great.
I really liked the location. The place was comfortable enough that I could have stayed a month. Having two bathrooms was a bonus! I will go back there.

There is a dedicated parking spot directly outside the property however it can be tight to get into especially if the neighbouring properties do not park tidily.
The property is 2 minutes walk from the main street in Kirkwall Town centre so very close to shops, cafes and restaurants. The property is compact but has a very well equipped kitchen with modern appliances and is decorated to a very high standard. The property is well heated throughout and very clean. Highly recommended - we would definitely stay again.

The only slight issue we had was parking when both neighbors were in as we have a long car. I'm sure it's manageable, but we decided to park further away so we didn't have the stress.
Air source heating was a nice change. The location was perfect for us to visit family, plus having the coop at the bottom of the hill was ideal. The wee hamper and tea/coffee were a lovely touch. Would definitely stay again.

The property is in an excellent location. We were very impressed with the unit, it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There was a very nice restaurant right across the road. We were a bit surprised at how far the ferry terminal was from the room. From google maps it looked like a 7 minute walk, but would have been at least 20-25 min, so be sure to take the bus from the terminal. Being a bit technically challenged had a bit of trouble figuring out the washer/dryer, but once we got that figured out it was so nice to get some clothes cleaned.

The main bed was really soft.

the bathroom doesn’t have a window so could get very hot. personally would have been easier if a travel cot was available, but not the end of the world.

It is extremely difficult to find. Route advised via Bridge St was blocked off at Shore St. Shower needs the glass put back in not the curtain. It is also not semi detached. There's units on both sides.
Place was fabulous. Position in town excellent. Very quiet.
