Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI know only some small things but they are equally important and I feel if the hotel would look into acting maybe on some of these points it really could have earned a 10. The shower head in the bathroom was black with dirt because it’s light in colour this stood out when looking to use the shower and so we felt we didn’t want to be seen to complain with as mentioned the staff being friendly so undertook cleaning it ourselves as not to cause a fuss. It was bad enough that we did google what terrible things you could catch from a dirty shower head very surprising so I know we really should have reported it. We had a meal in the bar the service was excellent but sadly the food was possibly some of the worst we had experienced after stopping in many hotels and b & b’s on a regular basis. It was such a shame but the chef sadly should be doing better on basic food. We did on the occasion after being asked by our server what we thought of the food we were honest and very disappointed. It was my birthday and put a dampener on the evening. Breakfast again sausage needed to be cooked longer and as others have mentioned the coffee was too strong, I read this in one of the reviews before going to the hotel and always would give the benefit of doubt but being a hotel surely serving a medium strength coffee would meet more needs going to strong you are always going to get people who wouldn’t enjoy their morning coffee. The hotel clearly hasn’t taken these points on board. And with paying more attention to detail and taking a closer look into the cleanliness and putting more effort into the food they serve could have earned a 10 and with the hotel could even charge more for the stay.
The location and the grounds are wonderful and the history also being kept alive through pictures and other items throughout the hotel. The hotel itself offers a pleasant stay. And the staff are friendly and welcoming to your needs.

United KingdomNothing really. You have to take into consideration the age of the property. That's the point. This lends itself to taking you back to a time when the squadron were there. So very nostalgic
Terrace bar restaurant. The food was well above expectations

Very nice place to stay. Steeped in history about 617 Dambuster squadron. Pictures all around the hotel showing the history of the place dating back to 1st world war. Staff very friendly, nothing to much trouble. You can eat in your room if you don't fancy eating in the restaurant for a small extra charge. Room is cleaned every day. You can have your laundry done for a small extra charge, which is great if you stay for the week. Dog friendly hotel to, must be on a lead at all times. Lovely grounds to walk around and a 15 min walk into wood hall spa town. Very happy. Will be going again soon I hope.

United KingdomWe had Sunday lunch in the bar and it was really disappointing. The roast pork was tasteless and there was no apple sauce and not enough gravy for the amount in our party.

AustraliaBar staff were slack and unfriendly and did not provide service to the standard a guest should expect at this hotel. "Are you right?" is NOT the way for a young barmaid to greet customers wanting to purchase drinks. Also, the bar staff (three females, I saw on the day I was there) were not attentive to clearing tables after customers had left. I also saw one customer presented with a spray bottle (Spray and Wipe or similar) and a cleaning cloth by one of the barmaids so that he could clear his own table before he and his friends could use the table. Really??!! Is that the standard that this hotel accepts? From my observations, these three young women seemed to think that customers were an interruption to their day, rather than the reason they have a job at this otherwise very fine, historic hotel.
Reception staff were courteous, friendly and helpful, both at Check-In and Check-Out. The young waitress in the Dining Room was also very personable and helpful. My room was excellent.

United KingdomQuite dusty in places! And the high windows and this time of year meant a lot of cobwebs but nothing that actually bothered us.
Beautiful old stately home. Different food options available in the restaurant to the bar made it easier for picky eaters.

United KingdomFor the price I paid I expected luxury, the garden view room we had had tired decor, the table on the balcony was scratched. Curtain lining was stained from window condensation. The room is advertised as having Penhaligon toiletries this was not the case. Just a little disappointed at the lack of personal touches and luxurious feel.
I like the history of the hotel. The grounds are beautiful too. Breakfast was lovely and service friendly.

Breakfast , variety on both hot buffet and cold. Room was very spacious and Clean, plenty of plug sockets. (Access to room was a small carpeted spiral stair case, then through a door at top of spiral stair case onto a landing with 1 step up to our room door)
