How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Absolutely lovely place to stay. Jack and Ellie were so nice and helpful. Our room was lovely and comfortable, with everything we needed, from toiletries, to coffee machine, kettle etc. The breakfast was amazing with so much choice. Excellent location, we used the bus each time to town as the bus stop is directly outside the cottage. We ate in The Plough in Fulford and also the Blue Barbakan in York, both recommended by Jack and Ellie.

Jack & Ellie could not have been more helpful and hospitable and made us feel very welcome. The room was cosy and the bed very comfortable. The DIY breakfasts were ideal and generous - just right. The cottage was ideally placed for a quick bus ride into York city centre and the designer outlet, just a few minutes away. We'd not hesitate to recommend Pinfold Cottage.

The property is stunning. The rooms are very clean, the location is good, as it is a short drive to York centre and Jack is really friendly. It is easy to find and has parking around the back.

Only had a short stay, but we loved the friendly and warm feel to this cottage. Right from the moment we walked in, we felt very welcome by the owners. Photos of our room were accurate. Thanks Jack and Ellie!

There wasn't anything to "not like".
The cottage and room were extremely comfortable. Host Jack was charming, informative and very generous. Although not offering a cooked breakfast, there was a great spread of quality food available for breakfast and snacks throughout the day. The cottage had a bus stop on its doorstep that took us straight into town and close to all the attractions and it had a place to park the car.

50 minutes walk from town centre but Uber/ bus service easily available and was only 10 minutes + we knew how far out we were when we booked.
Beautiful place. Really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

The room at the front of the house is quite noisy because of the road. I would definitely recommend asking for one of the rooms at the back of the house.
The location of Pinfold Cottage is excellent. There is a bus stop right outside the cottage making it very easy to commute in and out of the city. The room was comfortable and having Netflix on the TV was an added bonus. Breakfast was a help yourself affair with juice, yogurts, bread, waffles, fruit and teas and coffee on offer. Ellie and Jack were very communicative before our arrival and very helpful during our stay.

It really was a great experience can’t fault
A little gem . Booked because of parking. Just off motor way and beside designer outlet . Got bus right outside the door to city centre £4 return only 10 minutes Very thoughtful young hosts . Coffee ,water, cola ,biscuits ,tea / coffee in room and use whatever was in cosy kitchen at any point . Great quality choice for breakfast including Lurpack And fresh ground coffee and fruit And what can I say a hot water bottle home from home !

We had a very warm welcome and shown to our room. Room was clean, aired and comfortable. Bathroom clean and functional. The bed was super comfy and we both had a really good couple of nights sleep. Breakfast is help yourself to cereal, fruit, yogurt and toast etc. This particularly suited me as I have several food allergies and the owners catered to help me out with that. Slight issue with the shower, but that was sorted straight away with zero issues. Bus stop outside the property so made it very easy to get to hop on a bus and save the extortionate parking prices in York. Will definitely stay here again on a return visit to York at some point.

Very clean and comfortable bedroom with modern shower. Well stocked kitchen for self service breakfast and allocated parking space. Hosts very helpful and flexible.
