Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaWe really enjoyed our stay at Sherwood Guest House. Vivienne was a superb host, she ensured we had an exceptional experience, providing us with lots of useful knowledge about the city/restaurants/things to see and do as well as lovely chats whenever we saw her. Breakfast was beautifully arranged and left nothing to be desired. We are looking forward to our next stay at Sherwood.

CanadaHonestly there’s nothing to report here. Our room was a little small, but we expected it from the description and we managed well with 4 pieces of luggage.
Couldn’t hope for a better place to stay to begin our trip in Scotland. Vivienne is a great host and made sure our room was ready for our arrival after an overnight flight. The guesthouse is spotless and the breakfast has lots of healthy options. And above all, the location is amazing, and walking distance from old town and most of the sights, and very well serviced by public transit.

United KingdomWe liked the room but we have few suggestions 😊. The room didn't have a table and we struggled a bit when we were making our hot drinks in the morning, I understand room isn't big but a foldable table would be good option. And also we would suggest to put an adjustable shower head, the rain shower is great but if you want to refresh yourself without making your hair wet it's a little struggle.
The room was cosy and clean, very comfortable bed. Vivienne was a wonderful host and her guest book was brilliant, lots of useful information, I even called her book a little Wikipedia 😊.

United StatesOur room was small for two large Americans but I fully admit I could have booked a larger room but chose the one we were in by its price.
Vivian the owner was fantastic. She greeted us the first day to give us the lay of the land. She arranged a taxi for us and called the service several times when the taxi was late. The location cannot be beat. Just a few blocks from restaurants, shops and pubs and 20 minutes from Old Town.

United StatesBreakfast had great variety, and fresh, healthy choices. It was the best we had been offered in our 10 day Scotland stay. Hostess served hot beverages immediately. She was so considerate to provide a healthy ‘take away’ breakfast for early departure.

United KingdomA warning sign above the tap for the very hot water is probably advisable.
The proprietor, Vivienne, was extremely welcoming and friendly. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. Well situated for the City centre, the property was easy to find. The breakfast was plentiful with good variety and we loved the relaxing background music.

United Arab EmiratesThe guesthouse was quaint and beautiful. Our room was clean and comfortable and the attention to detail and little touches provided were lovely. Continental breakfast provided was great with more than enough variety and food to set us up for a day of sightseeing. Vivienne, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. We loved the information folder with everything you could ever need to know about Edinburgh and the local area and amenities that she had prepared. The guesthouse was about 20 minutes walk from the old town, and it was an easy walk. I would 100% stay at The Sherwood Guesthouse again.

Finlandsmall rooms but we only slept in them so it really doesnt matter that much.
Breakfast was good, Vivienne super friendly and the room was cleaned at your absence. Vivienne also provided the room with a binder that had everything you need to know to move around town and what to see. Location is good meaning buses come and go every 5 minutes and its a 10 minute ride to Royal Mile. Definitely next time we come around Edinburgh we are gonna be booking a room from lovely Vivienne.

United KingdomThe only thing to improve on was maybe adding in a table in the room (twin room) as two girls struggled with makeup and hair but it was a minor and we’re being picky!
Amazing guest house, one of the prettiest I’ve stayed in. Decor was lovely, traditional but modern. Super clean! Vivienne is a fantastic host who was full of information and was super friendly. She really made you feel relaxed and at home. Location was brilliant, regular bus services straight to the city centre which was very useful! Close to Arthur’s seat too which was a bonus for us.
