Amazing hotel, although it's a little tired in places, it's an amazing location and setting. My sleep was great.

The room was comfortable enough but the bathroom heated towel rail was switched off and didn’t work and lights far too bright. A fridge bar would be a welcome addition to the room

Pretty much everything! Loved the hot tub and sauna. The bar/restaurant was vg too. Food was great 👍.

The swimming pool and spa areas are a little tired looking. Staff seemed to be running about doing anytbigg bf but serve us. Took 30 minutes to take our dinner order. Had to the remind them to bring our drinks over. Then we had to get up to pay after waiting on someone bringing us our bill. Only to find four of them around reception chatting

Beautiful setting and lovely decor. Great menu for food

Our stay here was fantastic. The room was clean and bed very comfy. It is a beautiful place to stay with friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing. We were having a great stay until the last night when we were out walking our dog. As our dog was mid-toileting on the grass, some old man in a silver Mitsubishi jeep roared at me "I better not let that dog mess" The dog was mid-pooing, me standing there with my poo bag loaded ready to lift it up. The thing is, the old man who hurled this comment at me as he drove past was on duty behind the reception desk the next morning. I was obviously picking up his mess, and had paid £20 per night extra for the privilege of having our dog there, AND selected pet friendly from the booking.com website. If the old plonker doesn't want dogs there, he shouldn't advertise the hotel as being pet friendly 🤔 Apart from that, great place but unlikely to ever return.

There's nothing not to like - however please be mindful that the spa facilities are good but not very large and there are children at the hotel who may be in the pool/making noise during peak times, so recommend timing visits to the spa in the morning. The spa diary for treatments also fills up quickly so do book well in advance. You do need a car to get around with ease and I recommend you have a clear idea of the places you'd like to see before you book as the staff aren't always prepared to provide recommendations for walks/places to go and may need to run an Internet search for you instead. The food is also pricey compared to the local places - we were charged £10 for a sandwich each (a simple cheese sandwich or an egg mayonnaise sandwich) and 15 gbp per head for breakfast. In comparison J G Ross has a location a few mins drive away which is homely, large with great parking and much cheaper for the same food (we paid around 12 gbp for a sizeable breakfast for 2 people).

Thainstone House is beautiful and was a lovely stay - the rooms were large cosy and comfortable and the staff were really friendly. Looks like most of the rooms are dog friendly so if you have a pooch this is a great place for a get-away! The food served in the Stockdale Bar was delicious for dinner - I didn't try the formal dining room but I'd be fairly certain this was great too.

Bathroom was dated and lacked any counter space. Not enough hooks for towels and robes. Wardrobe hanging height was insufficient, so long dresses got crinkled. Coat hooks on wall would also have been handy. Breakfast was a mixed bag - the 'fresh' smashed avocado looked and tasted like something from Tesco. But meaty stuff was very good.

Location and surroundings are beautiful. Room was spacious and bed large and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Chess table in lounge was great. Spa area very nice and easily accessible.

The room had a weird small window which looked out onto the roof area were there were fans running also the too was a bit stuffy even with the fan.

2nd time staying and found the grounds peaceful and the building attractive, I never used the spa facilities this time but used both bars and sampled the food with was excellent quality, also the bed was incredibly comfortable

We were given a room right next to a trade/contractor entrance which was quite noisy early in the morning but our stay was so short we didn't bother asking to change. We were excited about the leisure facilities, they were fine but not quite as luxurious as we were hoping - looking ever so slightly run down and not the relaxing space we had hoped.

The hotel itself was lovely, especially the bar/drawing room. The food was also delicious and I couldn't fault that. The staff were really lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. We also enjoyed a lovely massage and the leisure staff were also amazing.

Poor view from bedroom window, all bedrooms are inward facing thus looking at a wall approximately 12 feet away. This is unavoidable due to the original design of the country house. It did not detract from our overall enjoyment.

Location, views from public rooms, leisure facilities, food quality, staff service,, facilities in room .

Evening dinner was ok but expected a little higher quality. The room had some sort of heating issue, and had fans, as it was almost unbearably hot to sleep. No concierge service.

The house is elegant furnished. The breakfast room and bar are beautifully decorated and give a great view over the garden. Our dogs loved the garden where they could smell rabbits and deers and our son loved the swimming pool.
