Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI originally thought the place would look and feel very dated, even had an impression it might be slightly run down.. However was nicely suprised - it has an older more classic look but is very well kept and is just the feel of the hotel. The room was great and the bathroom lovely. Staff were great too.

United StatesUpon arriving, we were on the street level and were assigned a room 3 floors us...no elevator... stairs. Not great if you have heavy luggage. The room's heat was not working correctly, so it was a chilly evening. My husband went down to the dining room and pub as was told the cook did not show up which resulted in no service for dinner. Unacceptable!!!!! The 2nd night we tried the pub for dinner, which initially was fine. When we tried to get a refill on our drinks, the crowd at the bar was 3 deep and waiting for service took at least 15 minutes.
The breakfast was adequate...but service was slow due to a tour group in the dining room.

United KingdomThe furniture in the King size room was not to our taste plus the chairs are too low when sitting down. Although room was spotless clean. Think Orkney needs a Premier Inn for the comfort of guests it works out the same price so I don't t see what the problem is ? ??
The breakfast was excellent we had fresh fruit, fruit juice yogurts, full English breakfast if we wanted it toast white or brown tea or coffee I had my own coffee so I got pot of hot water which was excellent for me. Staff were very quick to serve us each morning. Excellent service

United KingdomWe stayed in rm 211, very nice 4 poster bed, pity about the mattress, very uncomfortable. Room needs some TLC, wallpaper peeling off wall & ceiling, light nearest window did not work, light above bathroom mirror did not work. Jets in the jacuzzi bath looked like they could do with a good scrub.

United KingdomFrom arrival we were met with a friendly lady on reception, unfortunately I can't remember her name but she was very helpful, professional and made us feel welcome. The hotel in general was clean, tidy and had a homely feel. Myself and my partner had a great sleep, comfortable bed and a warm and clean room. We were just a few minutes walk away from everything that we needed. We didn't use the other facilities in the hotel but we definitely will if we return again in the future.

United KingdomDecor was dated and the bathroom could have done with being a bit cleaner. The Breakfast was absolutely awful, the bacon looked like it had been microwaved.
The Hotel was easy to access from the airport and is in a great location. Check in was quick and easy, the room was nice and warm on a cold day

United KingdomThe hotel requires serious renovations. Everything if frayed and falling apart. The shower had mould and grime around the edges and all of it was quite outdated and grubby. Definitely not worth the steep price. I've stayed in budget hotels that were a lot better.
The staff were nice and accomodating, letting us check in early which was very helpful.

United StatesThe staff at breakfast seemed to be bothered by our presence. I have not had that happen before at a hotel, and I am an extremely seasoned traveler. We had to waive them down to bring our tea and order our breakfast. Also, the room decor needed some updating. The curtains were dragging the floor by several inches. They weren’t hung properly, which made the room look very sloppy. These are easily fixable issues!
The location in Central Kirkwall was very convenient. The staff at night were very helpful when we arrived after midnight, due to the late ferry arrival.

United StatesThe hotel clearly has not been renovated in probably 30 years or more. Very small sink in the bathroom with separate faucets for hot and cold water; the stall shower is too small; the lighting is so poor that the shower is almost unlit; and the fan which goes on automatically with the light is very noisy. The hotel provided no bottled water.
The breakfast was very good, especially the scrambled eggs with salmon.

GermanyOld room. No renovation in the bathroom since some centuries ago. I managed to cut my foot open on something sharp next to the bed left from a previous occupant. On complaining, the hotel kindly offered to vacuum the room again. That was it. Dining room was pretty icy.
Its an old hotel right in the middle of town. So very convenient. Personnel try hard. A classic old Scottish hotels

Very difficult with suitcases especially if uou are somewhat disanled. The hotel foes not have lifts. The stsff will carry your bags up on request, but going up and down 2 flights of stairs was a challenge for me.

United KingdomThe parking - no directions to the very poorly set up parking area. I actually found it by accident. Finding the actual hotel once you get to get to the parking area is ridiculous. The walls are paper thin - I was kept up all night by someone snoring in the next room, then by their alarm which they left on while they went for breakfast. The shower recess was covered in mould. The bed - extremely uncomfortable. Received a message the day before I arrived saying the restaurant was closed and then finding out it was because staff “needed a break” was ridiculous, given their cancellation conditions required 48 notice. I’d been travelling and working all day, I just wanted to have a meal and a shower before heading out to work again, not have to run around trying to find somewhere to eat. Breakfast in the morning was also substandard. The staff weren’t exactly engaging.
Nice stairwell.

South AfricaI arrive at 13:45 at the hotel. No one at reception. There's a note on the reception desk to call a number if you need something. I was told to wait till 14:00 before I could check-in. Then the Receptionist arrive. Jumps over the counterand still doesn't acknowledge that I'm there. Was told I can go to the Royal Cask Lounge bar or the Restaurant for dinner. When I arrived at the Royal Cask Lounge the bartender had to go find out if dinner will be served. He came back with an answer but I was advised that dinner will only be available till 19:00. So I quickly had to place my order. Ordered the Scampi. Three quarters of the plate was filled with fries. Rooms aren't soundproof at all. Heard everyone coming down the corridor and down the street. I heard my neighbors alarm. Breakfast was a disaster. Got to the restaurant at 9:05. All the tables were dirty and no staff in sight. Went to reception again no one there. Went up again to the restaurant to finally find a staff member. Sat about 10 minutes before I was approached. No menu given. Coffee not refilled because there was nothing left. Only white toast available. Carpets in the whole hotel needs a proper wash imor needs to be replaced. The whole place smells funny. Light in the shower doesn't work. Extractor fans need a good dusting. Mold in the shower. Bed runner needs to be cleaned. No coffee maker just a kettle. The kettle needs to be cleaned. When I came back from breakfast Housekeeping was about to enter my room. After 10:00 Housekeeping again knocked at my door. Clearly they didn't want me to stay will 11:00 which was the check out time. Remember to bring an adaptor
