No idea if theres regs about fronts of buildings in Stromness but its just needing a bit of a lift- flowers? plants? paint? Inside theres quite a few stairs if you are in need of help with that

Outside of hotel bit disappointing but inside was much better. Enjoyed our dinner at their restaurant down the street. Lovely sleep, good shower, lovely breakfast. Loved the pictures on the breakfast room walls and the staff were informative. There is no on-street parking outside the hotel due to the narrow streets of Stromness but the parking is only a few minutes walk away. We had a great walk in the evening and in the morning went uphill to the viewpoint behind the hotel. Fabulous view over several islands in the sun- stunning! Orkney is just amazing

The room was fairly small and the shower a bit fiddly to get the temperature right. Was expecting more for the price we paid in comparison to other accommodation we have stayed in during this holiday around Scotland.

The staff were really nice and friendly and easy to get along with. Marlene in the dining room was lovely and very friendly with a great sense of humor. :)

Dining room being closed was a disappointment, compensated by the excellent meals and staff at the nearby Ferry Inn under the same management. A bath in the spacious bathroom would have been welcome.

Breakfast excellent, staff very nice. Location very central. Bedroom spacious, clean, comfortable and well-decorated. Large comfy bed. Shower good, plenty of hot water. Owner and bar staff very friendly and helpful.

The only drawback was the hotel restaurant was closed but post covid staffing this is understandable but please refer to the comment above, so more of a slight inconvenience that a criticism.

The Ryal Hotel is in a good location, not very far from the ferry terminal and an easy walk from the long term parking. The staff are quite friendly. The breakfast chef is good for a chat with some very interesting stories about Stromness and the islands themselves. The wait and bar staff are also good value. One evening with only the Chinese take out available we were allowed to eat in the restaurant and were provided with plates and cutlery. When we had finished, our table was cleared. The implements and containers were removed without any fuss or trouble.

Room on the top floor was smallish (though the bed was large) and the bathroom tiny. Wi-Fi was not working. Loved our stay nonetheless.

Bedroom was really small compared to what I’m used to. I’m tall and had to duck my head constantly. Had to open the skylight to vent the heat twice during the night. Initially booked at the Royal Hotel but was moved to the Ferry Inn.

One only thing, the rooms we were moved to had no view, only onto back lane and opposite taller building. Did not stop us enjoying ourselves and we would go back to both ferry Inn and sister hotel where we had original booking. Thank you

The location of the ferry inn where we were moved to was great. The food was great, good range and a wonderful selection of home bakes for breakfast. The evening meals we had every night we stayed and the food was lovely, agian good choice of menu. The rooms were big, bright and very clean. Most of all the staff were very friendly and helpful. They had a lot of problems with staff shortages all over the island and they had delays in the renovation of our original rooms so the staff were all under a lot of stress dealing with all the public and reshuffling but still kept it together and tried to please us all.

Bathroom was quite small with low pressure shower. Parking lot is a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.

Clean, comfortable room. Great location for walking around Stromness or to the ferry terminal. Delicious hot breakfast served by friendly local hosts.

The bathroom was minute, there was barely enough space to use the facilities. I thought it was very over priced at £85 for a single room.

I had 5 rooms booked in that hotel. My room was on the upper floor. Not so big, quite uncomfortable. Bathroom was even larger than the bedroom. We had some probs switching the hot water in the shower. Some of my friends were in 2 rooms on the first floor and apparently those rooms were much nicer and comfortable than mine. The price was the same for all rooms which to me is quite unfair because the room I was in was not worth that price.

Small room. Needed a clean. Sweet wrappers and an old lipstick under the bed. No remote for the TV. Price was high for what it was. They sent so many emails it was annoying.

One night stay in Stromness. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very good. Good location.

The tariff for a double room was a little bit pricey. The iron had been used by a previous guest and they had put it on the carpet and consequently there was a burnt layer stuck to the surface of the iron which was transferred to the trousers I was pressing which was somewhat vexing.

Spacious room and a comfortable bed. There was a hearty breakfast on offer and the staff were helpful and anxious to oblige. The hotel is handily placed after arriving on the ferry.

Expensive for what it delivers. As it is over a pub, smells like cigarette.
