How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Menu a bit limited. Too early closing for food at 7.45pm. Rushed for food because of deadline, which was brought forward by staff as a deadline. Staff were great, though!! Apart from that, breakfast lacking proper potential, continental not really it!! Location fantastic but expensive compared to City prices eg Galtres Lodge which is amazing on all fronts.

The bus that goes by doesn't run on Sundays, so if you need to travel on Sunday, make sure to book the taxi early or to travel so late you have plenty of time to walk to Askham Bar to a bus that runs on Sunday.
Very cosy Inn, beautifully situated with a very helpful staff. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet.

Breakfast was pretty basic only ate once. No milk and toilet roll in room. Quite a bit of dusting needed and we asked for an iron and ironing board which was promptly delivered, thank you. Bar room availability was difficult unless you pre booked a table, obviously a busy place.

Unfortunately mattress on bed not fit for purpose, room slanted ceiling really should warn guests as this should reflect on the price! Good size bathroom unfortunately toilet seat needs replacing asap shower head needs fixing too loose, only snagging issues.
Location beautiful, staff really friendly, food was good, the owner a nice guy.

Nothing, this is really nice place.
The location for visiting York is ideal. The room we had was lovely and warm. The bed was really comfy snd we had a good night's sleep. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The guys behind the bar were great and helped sort my computer issue. Great asset to the place. We gad dinner thee and it was really good. Loved the salted caramel cheesecake 😋

Combed ceiling in our bedroom effectively made it half the size as we had to bend double to avoid hitting our heads on the ceiling.
Liked our bathroom with bath and shower. Location by the river was nice.

Stopped serving food at 8pm and pub closed at 10pm which was a bit disappointing as we were looking forward to a meal and few drinks after our day. The shower wasn’t great, not very powerful at all.

The ceiling height in our room - which if we had known about it we wouldn’t have booked. It felt very claustrophobic and my husband is quite tall.

room wasn’t ready when checked in as had new cleaners start that day , room wasn’t dirty but cleaners need to do a bit more dusting found areas thick dust , advertised breakfast but wasn’t an option when arrived as there was a problem, was left a breakfast kit consisting of a flavoured muffin and jam croissant which I’m guessing had to last for my 2 night stay.
