Getting hot water for the bath/sink was something of a lottery and could take an eternity to arrive when it was available. I tried booking an evening meal on our first night several days before arriving, but the restaurant was already fully booked!

A hotel with enough parking on-site is a rarity these days, but we were always able to park every day after returning from trips out! An old hotel with plenty of character and interesting decor. A hotel that suits the more mature guest!

Didn't have a view from our window only roof sky lights. This wasn't mentioned in the room advertisement at the time of booking. Didn't like the automatic addition of the service charge in the restaurant and bar lounge. Although you can take it off it should remain at the customers discretion.

Car parking is surrounded with large tress, with birds nesting or roosting. Big job to clan car on return home. Bed a little on the small side.

Automatic service charge added on drinks and food bill which can work out quite expensive if with a party Menu was the same over our 3 night stay so did not vary, especially if you are a vegetarian

Our room on the top floor was clean and comfortable with a lovely big bathroom. However, impossible to sit up in bed (my treat to myself on holiday watching tv) due to the sloped roof. Maybe think about reconfiguring the room layout

The single room only had a padded desk chair I would have liked an easy chair to sit and relax in. The tv remote had a intermittent power button.

Both single and double rooms were clean and tidy, the beds comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. The hotels central location is perfect as a base to explore Harrogate.

When I booked the room there was an option to include dinner for an additional £40, which I included on the presumption this would show a saving on the menu price. I could have bought the same three-course meal on the day for £27.50, which was disappointing. Lesson learnt, investigate the full facilities before adding extras. There was no toilet brush in the bathroom, the sink plug did not hold water, the passenger lift takes longer to arrive than it takes to walk up three flights of stairs and there is no indicator as to which floor it’s on. No mention on booking that parking on site is first come, first served and charged at £10 extra per day.

Older, traditional hotel in nice grounds in a quiet location close enough to town centre for access, with all the essential facilities and pleasant staff. Room was very tidy and clean. Dinner was better quality than expected, however, not plentiful. Breakfast was average quality but plentiful. Ample parking on site, albeit that the overflow parking is 50 yards up a steep hill.

The bed. It’s OK to have the headboard fixed to the wall but with a wobbly bed on wheels, the 2 separate when you sit up in bed as the bed rolls forward and you fall into the gap. Not comfortable.

Location, lawn at front, parking, room, recent carpet and decoration investment. I hope the investment continues as features such as the rotting window frames need attention too.

A slightly bigger room

Disappointed with the room as Mr Day is disabled and the ensuite was very tight for me too. The Swan always a pleasure to stay as the staff and food are good. We appreciate that every effort is made to get us on a floor with no steps as a mobility scooter has to be used. Always an enjoyable stay
