Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Cayman IslandsThe House is ideally located and is just beautiful. Our room had fabulous views of the city and was luxurious and comfortable. Carole and George were welcoming and friendly, which made the stay even better. It was awesome chatting with Carole in the mornings, getting to know her story and the story of the house a bit better, as well as receiving recommendations on things to do/places to go. The quality of the breakfast was excellent and everything was delicious, including the home made jam!! If I could rate it an 11 I would !! Highly recommended and would love to come back.

We loved our luxurious quiet clean room with a lovely view of the city and gardens and of course the extra warm welcome we received. Breakfast was a delight with so much food and many choices and was beautifully and expertly prepared by Carole. The location of this B&B is in the best part of Edinburgh and you can visit all the major sights and many restaurants on foot. We highly recommend the West End Townhouse!

Fabulous stay in luxury Georgian Townhouse in central Edinburgh. Carole has refurbished the townhouse to an exceptionally high standard, which ensures your stay is both luxurious and comfortable. Our room was large and very comfortable with fabulous views of the city. The continental breakfasts were delicious, with a great variety of quality produce, added to friendly chats with Carole and other guests in the stunning kitchen, the perfect start to the day. The real gem here though is Carole, she clearly puts her heart and soul into the business, and makes you feel like you're staying with family. By far the best b&b experience for me.

United KingdomWhilst there are separate facilities to make yourself tea or coffee (and a fridge to keep wine etc cool) - nothing beats having your own kettle in your room to have a drink as soon as you wake up without having to leave your room would have been even better. However this is a very minor point in a really enjoyable stay.
Ideally located (can walk to Princes Street easily in a few minutes, and Waverley at the other end in about 25 mins- although we got the tram with luggage). The house is just beautiful, and the host Carole is just delightful, so welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. Located in a great part of Edinburgh, with access to some scenic walks and restaurants close by. Breakfast was lovely, served in the large beautiful kitchen, and you share the breakfast table with other guests.

United KingdomThere was nothing we didn't like about this place
The location was perfect just right, not to into the hustle & bustle of Princes Street but close enough to visit all the fantastic tourist attractions in Edingburgh, the house was amazing & the view from our room was stunning, Carol was a perfect host a lovely warm & friendly lady who made us feel at home immediately, the breakfast she provided was absolutely out of this world everything you could think of cereals, yoghurt fruits, toast scrambled egg & the best of all was Carol's special porridge which was to die for. If we ever visit Edinburgh again we would definitely stay at West End Town House we would highly recommend it loved it so much.

DenmarkNothing could make this place and this service better than it already is. Wow. Just wow.
We wanted a great place to stay, but this place is so so much more than that. Everything is perfect and the aesthetics is of the highest of standards. The location, service, quality of breakfast and personal engagement are excellent. Carol and her familiy clearly cares about their place and their visitors. The service, the experience and standards of living are all taken to a whole new level. We are so greatful that we chose to live here during the visit to Edinburgh.

United KingdomTea/coffee facilities would be a welcome addition to the room but Carol was more than happy to make me a cup of tea when I asked, so not a huge issue! The rooms are at the top of the house and so there are a lot of stairs to climb. Just something to consider for those with mobility issues but thankfully not a problem for me.
I travelled alone and felt so safe here. Carol is a truly wonderful host, I felt like I was staying with family but at the same time she wasn’t at all intrusive. The room was extremely comfortable with good quality bedding etc and exceptionally clean. Excellent location, near to all that Edinburgh has to offer. I can’t wait to return!

Great place to stay in Edinburgh with a lovely host in Carole who has lots of experience and recommendations in and around the city who makes you feel like part of the family.
