Location, service, breakfast, and our experience were all great! Absolutely great experience, from start to finish. The staff took care of everything and were very helpful and knowledgeable. We stayed in Hangetsu.

Nothing! I didn't like that we have to leave so soon. I cannot wait to go back to Kyoto and stay at Muan. I would specifically make a trip to Kyoto just to stay there again. The entrance was a little hard to find at first because it was located on a private road and it doesn't show on google map. However, it was really convenient once you found it.

EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!!! We enjoyed our stay at Muan so much. It was beautifully decorated, the rooms were so spacious with excellent bathrooms and toilets. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel so welcomed. The breakfast was delicious. Location was excellent.

Everything was wonderful. I would recommend asking them to show you how to turn on the hot water for the bath when you arrive. Also if you have difficulty with mobility, keep in mind that you have to climb stairs to get to the front door.

It was in a great location, it was very traditional looking, the room was very spacious, and the bath was nice. The bathroom floors were heated. Everyone there was so nice. They all took such great care of us. Kana-san was especially kind and helpful. She was able to help us book activities that were sold out online. We were having trouble finding a cab and we were running late and she ran out to the street to flag down a cab for us.

As is typical for all Japanese buildings, the walls are paper thin, so you can hear everything, so you must keep in mind to be quiet in your rooms and in the surrounding areas to remain respectful.

The staff was friendly and knowledgeable always engaging and extremely helpful and clear with instructions. The establishment was GORGEOUS and located in a perfect spot near the tourist point and a VERY quiet side street.

The only thing if you have bottom room, you can hear footsteps from above, but it wasn’t too bad. We slept very well!

Loved the staff, so friendly and kind. The Ryokan was top notch. Aesop products, Dyson hairdryer, beds are so comfy. We had the Japanese and Western breakfast and both were very good. They have Nepresso in the room.

This place is amazing! Service was impeccable. The hosts were very friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants and making reservations. Room was comfortable and quiet. Location was perfect for exploring Higashiyama. Breakfasts exceeded expectations! We were served different protein courses each day (fish, beef, egg/chicken). Loved the bar selections and service too. Highly recommend Ishibekoji Muan

I loved everything about our stay and have absolutely zero complaints with it, other than I wish we could've stayed for even longer. We stayed for 5 days and I would've moved in if I could, it was that amazing.

This place is INCREDIBLE! I have no other words for it other than the most pleasant stay I could ever imagine having at a traditional Japanese ryoken. We opted for daily traditional kaseki breakfasts that were served in our room with tea and coffee, would sit at the bar and chat with the staff and sample their great Japanese whiskey collection, enjoyed our beautiful spa-like bathroom with private onsen, heated floors, temperature controlled shower area, and beds so comfy, you couldn't help but fall asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. The staff were incredibly amazing and very quick to handle any needs we had—and they were SO friendly! We had several great and long conversations with them that they felt like friends more than hotel staff. The location was great too because you were a short walk to several temples, popular tourist sites and great food but was secluded enough that you felt like you could relax and detox from the chaos of other large cities in Japan. This was one of the best experiences during our 12-day stay in Japan. I highly highly recommend.
